Default Bad oil leak from above starter (?)

Well as most of you may know, my Z28 is down for the winter, one of the reasons being a massive oil leak that has the bottom side of the car covered with oil.

Not sure where its coming from, took a peak and looks like maybe above the starter area, what is there around that that would cause a big leak. The engine, though 135k miles, still runs strong, so if i can fix it without a rebuild i will. Any ideas or problem areas on the LT1?

take the valve cover off, clean the surfaces and put it back on.. then take the starter off clean it and run it... I had a VC leak that kept leaking down on my brand new motor and ended up giving me a header/oil fire... (no fun) sprayed out @ WOT

i was thinking rear main, but it looks like its coming from the side of the engine, i am going tomorrow to jack the car up and try to get a closer look at it, if its a rear main, it would be pouring out of the back of the engine block right?

Default Leak

This is just a wild guess, but isn't that where the dipstick sleeve slides into the block? Perhaps it's just something silly like the bolt coming out and the dipstick sleeve sliding out. Just brain storming.

Run your finger just below the intake seal at the back of the engine, underneath the EGR flexible line. This is the most common location.

After fixing this leak in on my car, I wrapped that EGR line with some silver starter wrap to keep the heat from that line from cooking the intake sealant again.

Pulled my y-pipe off today along with the starter and saw the block above the starter was wet with oil. Couldnt pinpoint it, but my back two plug wire boots had oil on them and the header on that side was stained with oil. I replaced the valve cover gasket since thats the easiest fix, it had a orange rubber gasket on there. Not sure if that was causing the leak. Would a cork gasket be better or should i get another rubber one?

On the plus side, after i pulled the cover off the top of the head looked in really good shape, no oil sludge or anything, looked really clean.
