Default Why lifter noise????

Now that's it's cold here everytime I start it up for the first time the lifters clatter like crazy. It's got 160K miles but I changed the cam and lifters about 10K ago. I used to run 10W30 oil but my oil pressure is slowly dropping so I switched to 10W40 with Lucas oil treatment. I brought my oil pressure up but now I'm thinking it might be too think for the Lt1s??? Any thought?

I might switch back to what it calls for 5W30 and then add the Lucas??

its prolly becasue that oil is so thick on start up its not being able to squeez in the lifter untill it heats up how low is your oil psi with 10 30 and now 10w40? wheni was using mobil 1 10w30 my psi in the summer was dropping to red at stops but would shoot back up when i gave it gas

I had a similar problem turned out the oil filter was the problem.I believe it did't have a drain back valve. Therefore causing oil to drain out the lifter gallies.

oil pressure when hot was dropping below 40 psi at about 2700 rpm and staying steady at idle at 18 psi. That was with 10w30. Now with the 10W40 and Lucas I'm running down the highway at 50 psi and at idle it's around 35 psi. The lifter noise goes away hen warmed up but mann I can't take the tick tick tick for 5 minutes. This is also with a mechanical gauge.

Well would you go back to what it calls for 5W30 or just stick with the 10W30??
