Lt1 4l60e $2000
I have a guy thats pulling apart a 96 TA with 140000K on it. He is going to sell me the engine, ECU, wiring, K member, auto tranny, and rear end for $2000. The only drawback is that the tranny has no 3rd gear. I am going to put this drivetrain in my 97 RS. I am fairly new to the F-bodys and am in need of a little advice from the expertes. Basicly I am just wantin to know if this is a good deal or should I just buy piece by piece seeing that I am going to have to rebuild the tranny anyway. also I do plan to do some basic mods to the engine before I drop it in so any suggestions on that would be appriciated.

It sounds pretty good as long as the block itself isn't hurt, and it truly is a complete setup. Don't forget that the motor won't just "drop-in". There is some fabrication and work needed to get it to fit in (i.e. k-member, driveshaft, etc.)

put that money towards a decent higher milage lt1. you can get them for 2-4 grand. a buddy of mind got his for $1500 and its in great shape. 125,000 miles i believe. just had to buy a new motor. also it will save you alot of pain and time!

I really dont know about the block I've never seen the car. He said I could come drive it it just dont have 3rd gear. I know the 4L60 trannys are famous for that. As far as the K member goes I thought that the one from the TA would bolt right up to my RS and whats the issue with the driveshaft?

i also agree its not a good deal. considering im selling k member, suspension, rear end that needs a new posi but works, overflow tank, power steering pump etc. pretty much most of the parts you need to convert a v6 to v8 except motor trans pcm harness and other things here and there for 200. there is a guy selling a 4l60e trans for 150 around here and another guy have a broken 4l60e for free. one of my buddies sold a lt1 motor with 58k miles off his crashed camaro for 500 with harness and pcm. so 2000 is too much considering i just listed everything you want to buy for around half the price

A blown tranny is what $100-150 at the boneyard, most I ever paid for an axle was $200 with removal fee, pcms are $50-90, I wouldn't pay more than about $800 for engine and wiring and have paid as little as $500, k-member is not worth over $700 you would need to bring that total too $2000.
I suggest you talk to fergymoto about how to get your hands on the wrecked car for $1750, it will be invaluable having a complete car to look at and pick parts off of and by the time you are done selling off parts you don't need it will cost you a LOT less.
I know a guy who bought a wrecked f-body just for the T56 to put in a Roadmaster wagon(think it even had woodgrain) by the time he was done selling parts I think the swap was free or maybe even slightly profitable.

Thanks Fergymoto. I've looked all over craigslist, ebay, iwanna, and autotrader with no luck. Do you happen to know where in Mooresville? Cuz I only live like an hour from there.

i agree with Fergymoto. its not worth 2000 for all that. like i told you before im selling v6 to v8 conversion parts for 200 with out the motor and trans. 4l60e for lt1s go for couple hundred can get one for 300 in working condition. give me the 2000 i will get you an lt1 look how simple it is. i picked up at roller with no trans and engine for 800 you can find lt1 rollers going for couple hundred bucks. trans like i said for 300 or less. motor for 500 to 800 dollar range. pcm around 50 and harness for around 100. if it doesnt have a working rear end can get a rear for 300 off a ls1 with low mileage. right there you can get a running lt1 for about 2500 depends on how cheap you get the parts. you can do it the easier way sell your v6 and pick up a 100k mile lt1 for under 4 grand or find one that needs some work for around 2 grand. lets say you paid 6 grand for your v6 and you are going to spend 2000 plus rebuild for trans plus misc stuff you are looking at 9 grand. for that much you can get a ls1 or a clean lt1 or one that is already build. its pretty much work doing the v6 to v8 swap if you get a v6 for no more than 1500 and you get the parts to do the swap cheap.

Email the guy that has this add posted. He had a couple wrecked LT1 cars for sale last time I talked to him.
