Default 94-96 LT1 manifold Tech question ? PICS?

I am wondering why GM cut the bolt hole like this on the intake bolt slot on the top of this picture? My 94(maybe actually a 95-97?) manifold has the same thing, and I have no intake leaks etc. I do use thread sealant on all intake bolts. But just curious as to why GM cut the hole like this, if they did?

My factory 96 intake was like that, then I bought a ported and polished one off of ebay and it had that also.. have no clue what the point of doing that was.

Maybe there was a wiring harness or hose or something that floated down there and the manifold needed to be notched to handle bracketry?
Who knows, as long as it is factory.

my 96 is also like that, but doesn't have anything that I see would facilitate it.

My bet would be something to facilitate easy assembly line handling of some sort.

The reason it is there is for easy assembly. It is used as a guide. Insert bolt and start, slide intake into place. This helps in assembly and stops some of the movement so the front and rear seal better with less movement. I actually use 2 short studs when putting on my intake to just drop it in place. I have a 94 and unslotted intake.

good idea on using 2 studs so it slids right down instead of back and forth messing up the RTV!! Good call man. Wish i thought of that when i pulled my intake off 10 times... DOH!
