There's so much debate about the flow of dual systems that it isn't even funny. If you want to do duals I'd just go 3". That way you for sure have lots of headroom.

Those #'s are assuming there are no bends at all in the pipes and that you aren't running any mufflers.

3 inch is overkill unless your making 700hp. It costs more and hurts your ground clearance.

Heard of guys slowing down by putting 3in duels on the car...2.5 is a typical diameter duel exhaust for mild mannered 4th gen cars. I like that setup in the link...would like to hear some sound bytes on it.

I think you also have to consider what muffler you put on the car...

The only thing that would slow a car down w/ 3" duals is the extra weight from the piping which is irrevalent

and anyone who thinks 2.5" TD on 99% of the cars on this board is causing a restriction needs to have their head examined.

personally i feel 2.5" is more than adequate, not because i have it! 2.5" is all i need for a long time...
it is the fact that the average car has less than 400 rwhp and really does not need 3".

i'm going 3"...all i have is bolt-ons. 1) the collector is 3" so there's no reason in reducing 2)gives me room for the future in case I decide to go w/ a supercharger or some agressive h/c package

^^^Agreed on my old turbo car i ran 3 1/2 even tho it was a 4 banger, if you plan to go boosted or all out drag i would do 3".....other wise id just do 2 1/2...

I run 3" single so you can say i have no room to talk....But I have been in cars and trucks that have put 3" duals on and lost time and power.

for the price of the piping i would rather upgrade the diameter later than to lose performance now......
people always say "future upgrades" would you have your pcm tuned for mods you do not have yet?
the only reason to do it is is you have all your upgrade parts sitting on shelves ready to instal.....
i would be thinkin about another motor to be building on the side with good parts.putting a cam and heads on an old motor is defeating the purpose, plenty do it and plenty have spun bearings..

lets see its not just the price of piping between fabbing up x pipe and to go over the axle and out the back its not a pretty penny and to have to pay for someone to do it all over again is pointless...and having your car tuned is totally different than exhaust sizes. Exhaust is a lot more permanent than a tune and a tune is a lot cheaper and tunes are meant to be able to change easily

and you find me some evidence that im loosing horsepower by going 3" instead of 2.5". I bet you if I put 2.5" system on my car and dyno'd it then put 3" system I'd see no gains and no loss

Easy G, don't let your feathers get ruffled so easily. I think you need to re-read my post. No where did I cut down a "good" 2.5" system. Facts are, maybe the 3" is a lil too big for my current setup but....when a LE3 383 WITH A 200 SHOT SITS IN THE PLACE OF MY CURRENT cam only 350 I won't feel the need to replace exhaust again

no feathers ruffled here, vicious.

I read your post and asked you a question that remains unanswered. Even with an LE3.2324438403987 with a 200 shot, a 2.5" TD system will be more than adequate. A 3" TD system on what your car is right now would just be ridiculous. It's your money though, G, so spend it how you see fit.
