Default Any one know how much to shave off a stock head?

I have a 95 lt1 bored .40 over and four valve relief flat top pistons I don't know the cc. of the valve reliefs but about how much are you guys whacking off the heads to up the compression and what head gaskets for max comp and durability. I also plan to spray the motor with 125hp-150hp of nos. Any help would be appreciated.

I think your better to o deck the block to up compression than machine the heads. Unless the heads are warped but you still want to remove just enough to straighten out and no more.

What ever you do, thinner gaskets or machining, remember to check valve to piston clearence.

I agree with the above post. I wouldn't "whack" anything more off the cylinder heads than necessary to ensure they are straight. Zero decking the block, piston selection, aftermarket cylinder head cc size and to some extent, head gasket thickness are much more desirable ways to alter compression ratios.

If you're planning on spraying the motor, a set of Felpro 1087 head gaskets will work well. They have a compressed thickness of .039". By milling the surface of the stock heads to reduce the cc volume, you won't raise the compression of the motor enough to make any noticable difference. You don't have a "signature" so its hard to know what has been done to the motor, but if you're adding nitrous, it would be a good idea to focus on a quality N2O kit and all the necesary supporting mods. What else has been done to the car???
