Default Bad Fuel pump?

On cold starts my car will take longer to start, about 3-4 cranks i believe.
My car has been sitting overnight i just went and turned the key to the on position gave it some gas then started it. it started right away
So my question is, should i try a new filter first? I had a new filter and pump installed 35,000miles ago.
any opinions or experience will be much appreciated

to be honest with ya... i am sorta having the same thing seem to happen to me... i installed a new pump and filter about 1500 ago though, and my car used to start on about 2 cranks... now i either have to prime the pump a couple of times first or sit and crank it about 6 times before it fires... i was sorta wondering the same thing, but didnt know if it was a "problem" for me or if it was just me wanting my car to start faster with a new pump lol

This seems to be a chronic problem, long cranks to start, Have had mine at the GM garage twice where they have replaced everything but the fuel pump under warranty with no luck. Goes back in Weds for another diagnoses and on there dime. Will post in that thread if it gets figured out. Only thing I can find myself is the fuel pressures drops very quickly once the pump is shut off. well a filter is about $15 and 30 min to change, so it can't really hurt to try that first.

i cut my Z to get the pump replaced, go ahead and replace that filter and see if you notice a change, maybe the oil is too heavy of a weight? ( just guessing there ) what kinda battery voltage are you running when its cold? How cold is it outside? Batteries dont perform as well under cold conditions. ( below 30 ish ). Check your fuel pressure with a mechanical guage too!

Hey Ben, i got me an SS! it'll be here in February.

i also cut my car to get the new pump in, so if i ever do have to replace the pump, it will only take me about 20 min. to do so, which is very nice
but i never really did take into consideration that it is freezin cold out here in indiana, and although i do have a brand new alternator and battery, 20 degree weather doesnt help my cause

Its not very cold, 40s-50s this has happened in all weather. When i have left it for more than a few hours it takes more cranks then when warm.
starter and battery are just a few months old, so i am leaning towards fuel.
i need to pick up a guage then ill see whats going on.

35K is quite a bit too many miles for a fuel filter. I was going to agree with the pump until i saw that. I bet your filter is clogged big time. To check it blow into the filter in the direction of flow and see how much resistance there is. there should be almost none.
