Why do you want an ignition box atall?

If the enswer is something other than boost or juice it is likely a waste of money, the 96-7 cars especially had good strong ignitions stock.

The regular MSD stuff will nickle and dime you to death because everything has to be added on. IF you are going to be running nitrous or boost and an aftermarket ignition will be of benefit consider the digital or the Mallory 685, both have lots of features all in one package.

I have the 6A. in my 96 TA. I love the box it wasent to expensive. I dont care what anyone says. I put it in my car as soon as i bought it with 113k miles and it has been on there ever since! I have had no ignition failures at all! I get 25.5 MPG with the box and 19-20 with out. Im not saying go out and get it because it will do the same for you. But i have been using it ever since i could drive.

The 6AL has the soft touch rev limiter which comes in very handy on the spray

You need to redo that testing.
We have all been convinced something useless was great at one point. One of the first things I did to my car was an ignition box and I was smart enough to eventually realize it was a mistake. For maybe a year though I swore it was great.

Last spring I put an Accel 300+ on my car because I wanted a rev limiter and got this box cheap, noticed no difference in the car atall with the box, if a car like mine does not gain from it a stock car is extremely unlikely to.

If the gain did really happen I would guess the plugs were gapped too wide or dirty in which case replacing the plugs with ones gapped right would be the true fix.

you do know today is the 25th, right?

if you're juicing later on, look into a digital 6...there will be alot of people who will say the mallory 685, but i just dont like mallory, so i went with proven msd

I have been running the 6la for years in different vehicles and i know for shore it makes a difference in power and fuel economy from the stock in-line 6 in both my jeeps to an old 66 mustang, my 91 and 92 camaro's and my 97 TA. It's not a big difference when you put it on and you may not notice it at all but you will if you take it off after running if for a while. But i would look into something digital with more fetchers

I use to run the MSD6A. Now I that I'm spraying, I have the MSD Digital6 Plus Ignition Control #6520. It's got a rev limiter,a single stage retard and start retard that eases pressure on the starter.

another vote for the MSD digital 6...I have been running it for over 5 years....I had to go a couple weeks without it once and the car felt sluggish and had poor throttle response.

And yes I know how to gap my plugs.

NIETHER!!

I vote Mallory 685. MSD is over priced. The digital 6 box is nice but cost more than the mallory and if you take the time to compare units and prices, the Mallory is a complete no brainer.

I would get a digital box. Why waste time with old stuff that costs a bunch. Get a new digital box for close to the same price (the 685 box)....

I have a 6AL for sale and it comes with the harness so it will just plug right in to your car. You don't have to wire anything up. Hit me up if you decide on a 6AL

I just put a Digital 6 on mine and it made a huge difference in drivability. It's much smoother and responsive at lower RPM. I'm running a little over 12:1 compression and had a light load, low RPM miss. It's gone! I'm sure gapping the plugs at .035" instead of .050" may have helped, but I doubt it would have made the same gain in drivability. Plus, now I get a real rev limiter.

The real test will be when I get it re-inspected. I failed HC by a very small amount, indicating a slight miss.

I had no issues with my mallory 685 box. Now I'm running a mallory 6a box with no issues. I put it on trying to chase down a miss, but it ended up being a lose rotor. If it didn't do anything to my car it definatly won't help a stock/stockish car.

Just passed NJ emissions. NJ puts the car on rollers to test emissions. Adding the MSD D-6 reduced HC and CO% within NJ limits.

I currently have the TR55's gapped at .050. I'm thinking they should be more in .040" range.
