Default Cats?

What are some advantages of having cats, and what are some disadvantages? Also, why are these things worth so damn much?!

They Only Help Reduce Polution And Restrict The Exhaust. They Also Quiet Down The Exhaust. I Live In Florida And They No Longer Do Emissions Testing So I Left The Cat Off. If You Go With A Performence Cat Then Listen To What It Sounds Like Without A Muffler. You May Like It. I Heard A 97 Z28 With Twin
Cats And No Muffler And Sounded Great.i Thought The Guy Had Headers And A
Cat-back Exhaust But It Used The Stock Manifolds And Cats.

They are worth so much because they have platinum inside that people extract and can make alot of money from. Only stock cats on vehicles are worth money, hi-flow cats like magnaflow aren't worth anything because they hardly have any platinum and other metals inside. Advantages are the car will probaly sound better and disadvantages are inspection if you have a visual or sniffer.

I put the cat back on mine because it was a little too loud for my taste and running without it was turning the back of my white car yellow.

The stock ones flow well enough for a stock motor, once you start adding aftermarket heads cam etc, the stock cat will be a restriction so you will want to go with a high flow one or remove it.

Only if you have emissions testing or visual inspections like we do here in Houston. I used to run a straight off road pipe, but put my cat back on when they started clamping down. Heard stories of DPS (department of public safety) officers impounding vehicles caught racing when they did not have cats installed upon inspection and the fine was $2,000+, but that's here in Texas. IMO - The 1-5 hp gain is not worth the fine. Just my 2 cents!!!

Actually the big seller is paladium not platinum..while there is platinum in there I believe the paladium is worth like $300/ounce

They kill mice and other small rodents if you have a problem with them.
