'91 LT1 breaking up @ high RPM's HELP!!!!
Ok, so my cousins car is a '97 camaro and when he gets up to about 4,500 rpm or higher it breaks up like it's hitting the rev limiter and then shifts into 2nd hard as all hell. The opti is a brand new GM unit, the coil is a new msd brand, new wires and plugs. We're outta options here so any possible causes for this problem would be awesome!

start with the cheapest things... check to make sure the plugs are tight, check for burnt wires even though they are new they could have thouched a headers, also check the fuel filter

thanks for those of you who are trying to help. The tranny is original 110,000 miles with a shift kit. The car is just a bolt on LT1 with a 125 shot. Only intake and exhaust plus the spray. I guess we're gonna try the knock sensor since it was disconnected for a along time (previous owner) and we just recently hooked it back up. I'll let you know what happens.

usually the only reason a knock module needs to be changed is if you have something done to the car to make it louder under the hood such as rockers or headers etc. what they do is pick up spark knock and adjust the timing to get rid of it. if you have headers like me with dumps under the car the lt1 module will pick up a 'false' knock and adjust the timing too much. the lt4 knock module is not as sensitive as the stock lt1 module and doesnt pick up as much false knock.

Well it wasn't the knock sensor or the crank sensor...I guess it's the dumba$$ opti. I can't believe it. we just replaced that thing with a GM original replacement.
