Default 1996 impala ss

I just recently bought a 96 impala ss. I took it to the track today and the fastest i ran was a 15.36 @ 91 mph. I was wondering what you guys think about this. It is the LT1 but has the iron heads and weighs about 1000 lbs more. It actually weighed 4480 with a full tank of gas and me in it. Do these track times seem normal for a bone stock impala.

ya i had the same car in oct. of 2006 from aug.8 til oct.12 then sold it for my baby "1996 trans am" it was a big difference.those cars are a pain in the *** to get to move.my friend has 1 with a hotcam and a stall with headers, cutouts and m/t. that thing moves pretty good for being a boat. i think i ran 13.5-13.9 something like that i really dont remember. but i do love the car still. they are sweet looking and comfortable as hell. also i use to fishtail that fu**er around every corner.nothing better seeing a huge car fu**in fly by or burning out / fish tailing . but get some gears to move the tank. 3.73 would be perfect. atleast you got tons of engine space compared to my t/a lol cause you can work on it a little easyier. here's what the car looked like with a custom 2006 dodge charger burnt orange paint job. " and the rims are only on there cause i new it would sell the car faster so i did a little burnout on the piece of crap 20's lol"

Sounds about right for a stocker.

They respond well to mods, the chassis and axle handle power better than the f-body being full frame and 8.5" as opposed to unibody and 7.5".

Thing that makes modded cars seem slow for the money spent is usually bad choices on the owner's part.

what would be a good catback for it. I was wondering if anyone has ever cutout the stock muffles and just welded in some bullet style muffler. Wonder what that would sound lke.

I'd Just Get L/t Headers And Some True Duals. Also Put A Electric Cutout To Make It Sound Beefy. I Love Boats That Sounds Beefy

My 96 Impala has Coated Longtubes, X-pipe, with spintech's pro-streets turned down before the axle. It sounds awesome, and by the way Clear Image Automotive built the system. As for an off the self catback, I like hooker's or borla of course.

Might want to have some vaguel clue what you are talking about before you post. The LT1 b-bodies came stock with true duals. Granted the mufflers are like 1 3/4" inside so they do not flow that well and some of the pipes are crushed to a d-shape, but it is true duals, even the wagons, Roadmasters, Fleetwoods.

focuztech has some nice header options, I have bought from them and Clear Image and focuztech gets the future buisiness as they actually deliver the product in a timely manner and do so at equal quality and at a better price.

Talk to Dan over at www.clearimageautomotive.com . He carries a full line of great performance products for the B-bodies. He'll even help you put a package together to suite you. Also, check out the ImpalaSSforum . The sites has been down for a couple days but it is a good source of info for our Impalas.

The 96 Impala SS I had went 15.001 bone stock to the filter. So that is in the neighborhood.

The d-crush under the crossmember is probably a little over 2" wide but only 1.5" tall, the crushes are really bad. I might be able to put some pictures up soon. I bought another wagon to replace the high miler, just don't have it home yet.

Sounds about right to me. With the right choice of mods it'll imporove big time without spending a fortune.

StealthFormula, I think the majority of that time was being at Atco in cool weather, lol. I've picked up 1/2 second there over other tracks.
