94 LT1 will not go above 3k or so.
Ok I just helped my friend pick up his newest toy, a 94 Formula. It has some issues but what F Body of this age does not.
We are both having problems getting the coolant light to go off, we have fluid but its on... or goes off then comes back on.
But anyway the more pressing problem is above 3k the car backfires stumbles and sometimes just dies, not like its try it just hits what seems ton be a fuel cut.
After looking the car over again I found a hole after the MAF right by the TB we tried to patch it up until the elbow he ordered comes in but he wants to know if there are any other possible causes. The plugs and wires are new.
Thanks! (He registered here but has not been confirmed yet it seems)

if it wont go above 3k sounds like a clogged cat but that hole will definitely make you run lean but shouldnt prevent you from getting above 3k.
and the coolant light is a common problem..its either dirty or you will just need a new one. Next time your coolant gets flushed/changed take that off and clean it up and see if it helps

i'd try plugs and wires. when was the last tune up? the unmetered air is not going to help but I don't think it will make you stumble over 3k rpm. and it could always be that opti.

I'm leaning towards bad opti as this is what happened to my Z before the opti totally quit. It died in mcdonalds drive through, started back up, drving home it started to sputter and pop anything above 3k and than just one day, didn't start again. Swapped opti's and all was well again.

ok, so its def a Fuel cut issue, not Spark. Car runs fine. Hits 3k RPM and gets Fuel Cut.
at this point its gotta be ECU,Control Module,PCM related, i cant put into my head an Opti only crapping out after 3k, but having no problems EVER other then that.
car runs perfect, untill 3k rpm.

check your icm...my car used to run great until 3.5k and it would misfire horrible...also if yours is an m6 put it in 6th when your going 40-50 to get the rpms low and give it full throttle which will put a big load on the motor...if it misfires under that load its definitely opti/icm/coil
