Default Na H/c/i Setups

I have done a couple of searches, and checked out the stickies, but would like to hear your oppinions on what works well for a daily driver that sees the strip on the weekends. I am looking for combo's that are not gonna kill the reliability, but make decent power and work well together through the entire rpm band in both horsepower, and torque. The car will be a 95 TA A4 with a converter, a 3.73 gear, and a 28" tall tire at the track. Any and all info is appreciated, thanks.

Chris

Talk to Advance Induction or Lloyd Elliot for one of their matched H/C/I packages...

Cam I would stick to no bigger than like 230 duration at .050 for good reliability and street manners.... Maybe like a 224/230 cam.... 112lsa or 114lsa.... Lift should be in the 570ish range...

I just got off the phone with advanced induction, (i'm looking into a similar setup) the guys there know their ****, and if you talk to them/check out their site its clear that their stuff outperforms the rest and is done on a cnc rather than some guy in his garage. talk to 96capricemgr he has an Ai, 11 second B body caprice... that should tell you enough lol !

I too have dealt with AI personally and make great cam only numbers and my track mph is great (e/t though is another story...too much of a puss to get any kind of 60' out of it). I have also heard great things about lloyd elliot though i have not dealt with them personally.

Comp has a 230/236 cam that would suit you nicely..along with a set of ported heads, you should be 11.9-12.1 ET range. Doing a search wouldn't hurt either. Lots of different combos out there.

So he could run what my whale does with a smaller cam? Sounds like a good choice

There was a topic a few weeks ago, where a guy with his LT1 ran a 12.1-12.2 with that cam, and full bolt-ons..Look it up Dwayne.

CC 503 is a good cam that has great drivability and will pull from about 2000-6200 RPM or so. If you are willing to spin more RPM and lose a lil more low end power (2500-6500 RPM), the GM 847 is a good choice.

These are 2 'catalog" cams I would suggest.

If you are looking at getting heads, just about every shop will have their own custom grind that will work well with their heads.

A quick 15 minute call would help qualify alot more what you are aftera nd willing to sacrifice to get the best cam selection for your set up.

There is a bolton b-body that does 12.3, well maybe calling it boltoOFF would be more accurate.
You also said ported heads in your first post.

IMO there are a lot of overcammed cars out there.

way back in 1997 (wow 11 years go by fast) a few local guys were running something like a 211/219 comp cams nitrous grind with 1.6 rockers, CAI, long tubes and the old KTRE 12 bolt rears. They were ruuning 12.2 in 90+ degree heat at rockingham dragway in n.c. Thats full weight (ac, radio, spare and all the factory junk) at that. Thats why when people say low 12's with heads and a cam i kind of shrug my shoulders and ask myself "how are they running so slow". By the way I am not hacking on any head company. good luck with you goal

Not hard to believe at all considering you could make a stock internal, bolt-on car with stock gearing and BFG DR's run in the 12.7 range waaay back in that same time frame in the Texas summer heat. Sucks getting old.

This is very good advice...I run a 383 with a 226/234 weenie cam with .568" lift...Great drivability and over 121 mph traps....bigger aint always better...

So, what did they do to get them to run the numbers? Was it all in the Tuning?

Lets see if i can remember everything. 12 bolt rears with 4:10's, slicks, CAI, long tubes, that nitrous cam (without the use of nitrous), jeff creech tune, 1.6 rockers of course, they were also 6 speed cars. let me see if still have a video up of 1 of those passes.

I don't have it posted on the internet anymore but i have it at home on my desktop pc. Pm me your e-mail and i'll send it to you.

O.k. unless I'm missing something, you have an LS1, in which case cam only would prolly make you very pleased, just choose the correct cam. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just judging by the sig and sig pic.

just lookin to have a fun street car that canbe thrashed on the weekends, and not be broke all the time so I can enjoy it everyday. This is my ultimate goal. If I had the money for it I would be going the forced induction route, but it just can't happen . I do like the AI stuff, looks very good for my application.
