lt1 just died.
i have a 93z that ive been driving almost daily for about 2 months..car runs great no probs at all except for some low rpm hesitation, and high rpm hesitation. Most of the time the car ran great though with no missing or any other probs. well it rained for 2 days, and last nite cleared up so i decided to take it out for a few min to put some gas in it, etc... took a while to start, just kept cranking. i thought maybe it was b/c i had like an 8th of a tank left in it(and factory gauges usually arent too accurate). after it started it ran fine, put gas in it, drove about 20mi and everything was good. Well today it started right up with no probs, got about .8 mile up the street to wash it off, and as im waiting to pull in the bay it just shutoff and wouldnt restart. it's getting fuel up front, so i know its nothing fuel related.
Do you think it could be the ICM, or something along those lines? or is it pretty much for sure the opti? car has 112k on it, pretty sure its the factory original opti that is in it. thanks in advance
James

i just pulled out the ICM and went to get it tested, but neither autozone nor advanced auto parts had the correct adapter for it. so now i have to wait til tomorrow to take the icm to a dealership..unless theres a way to test it @ home?

my (vented though) opti went 205K miles before I swapped it out. It still worked fine, but the original plug wires were shot. I tossed in a new coil at the same time. I would look at your coil and plug wires before looking for anything more complicated than that.

Check all fuses, remove/clean/re-install battery cables, check all positive and
negative ground straps, check all electrical connections. And if you're going
to check all the connections, it wouldnt hurt to get some electrical spray and
spray the connections before you plug them back in.
Check the spark plug wires and the coil wire (check the OHMs and connections).
Has the SES light come on? Have you checked for any codes?

thanks for all the quick replies....
I had previously thought that the hesitation/missing was due to the plugs/wires..they are the originals with 112k on them so i knew they were due for a change. But other than very low rpm miss(1300rpm or under, while accelerating in overdrive) and the high rpm miss( WOT at around 5300-5500rpm) the car ran good...Im sure the plugs/wires should be changed, but i doubt that would make it die out of nowhere.. i'm going to get the icm tested, and test the coil/coil wire myself tomorrow..hopefully its not the opti. If it is i think i might throw a mild cam in it as well since half of the front end is disassembled

thats what one of the guys working at advanced auto parts said, but then he said that he didnt know if it would work for sure, and he didnt want to damage the icm if it wasnt faulty. aghhh
