Getting cam installed tomorrow...few quick ?'s
Im getting a LPE 219/219 .560/.560 HR112 cam, crane dual valve springs and crane gold 1.6 roller rockers installed tomorrow...but I have a few questions.
The car is a 96 A4 with ~95k on it...would it be a good idea to replace the lifters and if so will the ls7 lifters work?
Other question is do you all think it'll run alright with the stock TC and 3.73 gears? It is a DD, but I plan on getting a higher stall converter once I have the money for a built trans...just wondering what I should expect for the time being..
Last question is about the tune...what are the chances it'll run alright on the stock tune? Im going to get a mail-order tune from pcm for less once I get the car back home...but it's a ~30min drive from the guy who's installing the cam. Would it be safe to drive the car home on the stock tune?

It will be OK to drive it. Most likely it will have a hard time maintaining idle so you may have to put it in neutral and keep RPM up at stop lights.
Lifters...I would go with Crane stock replacements. Good idea to replace valve stem seals

Thanks for the reply...I had the valve seals replaced about a year ago and Im kicking myself for not having the springs/roller rockers installed then haha.
After posting my question about the lifters I did some searching on here and read some good things about the LS7 lifters...is there a big difference in the crane lifters? Thunderracing has the LS7 lifters for $136 so I think Im going to go with those along with comp cams high-energy pushrods

I would check the condition of the lifters but would personally get the LS7's. The car will definetly run with the stock tune and stall just not spectacular or anything. I was driving a few hundred miles on the stock stall and tune back in the day with a larger cam and had no issues except for crappy driveability.

also keep in mind that you will have to measure for PR length if using the LS7 lifters. This can be somewhat of a delay if you are in a hurry to get it fixed up over the weekend.

IIRC the pocket (plunger) of the LS7 lifter sits slightly higher than stock lifters which will effect PR length.
You should check PR length with a $12 check tool to confirm and if you do need shorter ones they are available typically in .050 incriments in length.
Many people do run old lifters with a new cam...but manufacturers recommend replacing lifters with a new cam.
