wat cam would be a good choice to run in a 383 with stock ported heads looking into shifting no higher then 6600 and even that may be pushing it...trying to find a good cam that will sound good and make good power as well can someone point me to the right way...i know custom will be the best but just not sure yet...i know with these cam they wont have to be reved as high as in a 350 put still somewhat high corect me if iam wrong

Everyone will tell you to go custom, but chances are a 306 or 847 will do good for you too. Although depending on how ported your heads are, you may have to spin past 6600 to make the most of them..

I'm running the cc306 in my car and even with horrible gearing there is power all over the place above 3,000rpm. It does fall a bit as I hit 6,000rpm due to my heads being bone stock...

With a 383 I would do 230/236, cc306, or GM847 if I was limited to an off-the shelf. I believe Fergymoto used the xfi280 in a 383 and still had to shift or made power or something like that at 7000rpm. And yes, the more cubes the less rpm needed to spin the motor for the same duration cam. The more work done to the heads the more rpm's it will have to see.

I had a 242/248 110 lsa in my LE3 headed/ported intake 383 and it liked being shifted at 6500 rpm. had power ALL over too.
for an off the shelf cam I would go with a GM847 or the XFI 242/248 comp has.

I like the smaller stuff even in a 383...Mine is a Joe Overton/Erson custom thats 226/234 with .568" lift on a 111lsa...Shifts at 6300 and makes great power everywhere and it performs at the track as good or better than most bigger stuff...I have the cam card and dont mind sharing...Im sure Erson can grind it again...

I have had great luck with the cc306 over the years..We have a 383 camaro that just went 11.30 @120 on motor with dart heads and a 306 shifting @ 6400-6500. my old car with stock heads 383 cc306went 12.10@113..

The 280XFI sounds nasty as hell, but you have to rev the hell out of it to get max power (6500 and still going up!). I switching to an LE cam this winter, after talking with him on the phone I learned the off the shelf grind is more emisions favorable. He explained how but he started talking a forign language to me! So i'm one more vote for custom grind their the same price and you can get a cam best suited for your car!

if money is tight, me personally, i would wait and do it right the first time. there are a lot of guys out there who think that bigger is better but its not always the case, there are guys with smaller cams with the right heads intake setup putting up better numbers. id wait, and have a custom cam built for you application, thats what im doing. It will be worth it in the long shot. then you wont have to take that LT1 out of that little crammed space again to replace you cam because your not happy. I hope this helps

brandon call accurate and see what they will get you for a custom ground one he told me great prices like no more then a comp XFI series, he had a 383 monte down there making like 455whp and like 500trq with a custom ground cam they had made, i would defanitly call them.
