I read in the owner's manual that you can downshift into 1st gear at speeds lower than 20 mph. Do any of you downshift above that?

Only time I really go back to first is if I slow down lower than 5mph.

Hell ya I do. I tend to do alot of roll racing in my area and I LOOOOOOVE doing 30mph rolls with my 3.42 gears. Trick is whenever you downshift to blip the throttle. If I'm downshifting to 1st at 30mph I give it a good rev before I downshift. It's alot smoother than you think. If you're not revmatching the car when you downshift I would not recommend doing what I do. I've been doing this racing it pretty hardcore for the past 9 months and have had absolutely no issues. You can generally tell if you're hurting your car...i can at least.

And that's b/c you're an old man or a *****. You're not hurting it if you rev it before you downshift.

i do sometimes but the ol solid roller gets kind of angry going into first at those speeds. plus there is no point because as soon as i hit the gas its tire smoke

I've done 30mph and have ocasionally got it to go in at 35.
Although at 35 1st gear doesn't last long even with 3.42's.
