Default Difference between LT1 T56 and LS1 t56

Is there any difference between LT1 t56 and LS1 t56? I need to buy a transmission for my LS6 and i've found one.

Will both be bolt-on or need any other parts?

Thanks
Kevin

Switch out to a LT1 bell housing and switch the input shafts.

The front plate of the transmission is also different, the LT1 style has an attachment for a pivot bolt for a clutch fork. The main shaft is the same, the input shaft is longer on the LS1 variant.

Would be too convenient to be able to swap the LT1 clutch setup into the LS and eliminate the sticking clutch issues of the internal hydraulic throw out bearing.

I just completed this conversion. It was very easy and took about 20 minuets. I purchased a LS T56 front cover/midplate, input shaft with bearing, bellhousing and clutch kit. I had a NOS LT1 T56 trans. so the conversion was the best set for my application.

Yah but the difference of price for me is not enough for buying all that parts and swsap everything. Its not like if i can have a lt1 t56 for much cheaper.

Swap the input shaft and front plate to make it a Ls1 unit as long as the unit is not the 1st gen LT1 unit with the different gear ratio.

Are you talking about the ZF 6 speed? That was the late TPI and early LT1 vettes and maybe the 93 camaro/firebird. The early T56 was not rated for 450 FTLBS till 94.

No, the 93 F-Body was not the ZF. There were 2 different T56's in the F-Body in 93, both of which were different than the 94+ unit. F-Bodies never got the ZF, and C4 vettes never got the T56.

Good to know the vette had the junk trans. Not junky junk, but more expensive to fix and i have heard they are not as good as the T56. I could be wrong.

I honestly don't know anything about the ZF other than that it was in the LT1 and LT4 Vettes. I've never driven a C4 either so I have no idea how the ZF feels...which is strange considering all the cars I've driven, especially GM cars...

The ZF has a deeper 1st gear, like a 700R/4L60.

The output is bigger; the synchros have multi-height teeth that allow for longer wear life, and there are no problems that need billet keys (this made it into the TR-6060.) If cost and parts availability were the same, I'd consider the ZF and I really like the T56.

The ratios are very close to the 2.66 / .50 T56.
