Default What fluid for the clutch hydraulic reservoir?

Is the clutch hydraulics supposed to be filled with atf or dot 3 brake fluid? My mechanic filled it with atf im certain because the fluid is red. Does it matter whats in there? Everything ive read says fill the tranny with atf and the hyrdaulic system with dot 3 or 4. Every single part of my transmission system is brand new and i have a problem with the pedal sticking like there is air in the system but when i bleed it absolutely nothing comes out. Im lost and dont know where to look.

i might start by looking for a new mechanic.

it should have dot 3 brake fluid.

I dont know if the ATF will hurt it, but I would bleed it out with dot 3 asap and see how the pedal feels.

Well my dads drivin down here to get it on a trailer at the moment. Ill have to bleed it tomorrow. I hope that fixes it, if not I'm not sure where to look. Like I said every bit of the system is brand new, the trans only has 200 miles on a tick rebuild and new ls7 clutch set up.

report back after its bled out.

is the master cylinder new as well? i know its a pain in the *** but you may want to take the master cylinder off and bench bleed it. the master sits on the firewall at an angle and should be bench bled before installing to make sure there is no trapped air in it. if normal bleeding doesnt help, this would be my next step.

tried to bleed it out. no luck. pumping the peddle pushes out tons of fluid through the top of the reservoir. yes the master is a brand new tick one.

you can gravity bleed the system by cracking the valve on the trans and drain the system. You can then flush the system with some cheap brake fluid to get it clean then put in your fluid of choice.

i drained it, refilled it, and tried to bleed it but it will not build up pressure on the pedal. all it does is spray fluid back out the top of the reservoir. you push the pedal in and the fluid just rises and falls with the working of the pedal.

Pull tranny and replace slave. Pull M/C and either rebuild it or call Tick and see if they can rebuild it or send you a rebuild kit. When rebuilding, don't forget to flush M/C casting and the line going to the slave. The seals in the system are screwed.

Do not use anything but brake fluid, either DOT 3 or 4. I prefer Motul RBF600.
