GM released a bulletin stating not to use Dexron VI in manual transmissions.

It is not compatible with the blocker rings. Stick with Dex III for the T56 and any other manual trans that requires ATF.

Synthetic fluid? Read something about the synthetics chewing up the paper blocker rings

I think thats only when using Royal Purple. Get some Amsoil synthetic ATF. Alot of guys on here have run that also with no issues.

You should always try to stay with what is "recommended" there are other options out there, do a search, you will get many threads on this subject on other fluids that will work.

Any regular Dex III will work, but some do change the shift characteristics (ie, smoother, worse in cold weather, etc.) from brand to brand. Mobil 1 made my transmission shift the best, but being paper blocker rings work with friction, I decided to avoid a rebuild sooner than later I swapped that out for Citgo Dex III, which shifts almost as good (better when warmed up, which doesn't take long) and the extra friction should be easier on the blocker rings.

Just my $.02. FWIW, I called Tremec and they recommended Mobil 1, I've just heard from rebuilders that it's not always the right thing to use if you have paper rings. I dunno....

Pennzoil Synchromesh. Made for manual transmissions. Apparently Pennzoil actually makes the GM Syncromesh, except cheaper because it doesn't have GM's name on it. Mine felt noticeably smoother after a fluid flush, but it's very well that was 100k mile fluid

So does this mean built T56s can get away with Royal Purple, or any other synthetic ATF? I only ask because my T56 is built and included in my upgrades were carbon fiber synchronizer rings and wonder if my built tranny would shift even better with something other than Dex III that I'm currently using.

If your T56 is built with the carbon blocker rings, I'd just use the Mobil 1 ATF.
