Might be a silly question, but are the LT1 cars clutch setups the same as LS cars? I know the slave and stuff are different but if the LT1 T56s are 26 spline inputs then an LS clutch should work, right?

From my quick search I found clutches specifically stop at '97, then a new part# for '98+. So I'd say no, it won't work. Unless someone knows otherwise?

LS7 clutch works in LS1, now this could be a completely different scenario. But I like thinking of all situations that could make it a possibility. Now I have no idea if it will work, hopefully somebody else will. Sorry for wasting time

No, lt1 and ls1 clutches are completely different.

The lt1 factory style clutch is a pull clutch(valeo), the ls1 is a push style clutch. Now with that being said. I have a 96 impala ss with an lt1 that I converted over to a t56. I didn't want to go with the pull style clutch and went a different route of using a 10.5" conventional push clutch. I had to use a flywheel for a regular sbc. Replaced the slave and fork from the pull style with a hydraulic slave/throw out bearing, that slipped over the input shaft.

I think, not sure that there is .400 extra length difference from the ls1 to lt1 faceplate. So i think that an ls1 clutch is, will be stacked too much and not have the clearance in the tighter lt1 bellhousing.

Some more in the now should be able to answer you better.

I'd really like to know if I could fit an ls style clutch too but most I see use a 11' or bigger clutch disk. My 10.5' doesn't leave too much more room before you get to the pressure plate bolts. No way i could fit one bigger than 11", that's for sure.

.400 is the difference in distance from the back of the block to the crank face between LS_ and Gen I/II engines. This accounts for only part of the difference in input shaft length though and the splines on the inputs are in quite different distances from the face of the trans. Not to mention having to account for pilot bushing depth differences. In short, it would be custom work to use an LS clutch behind a Gen I/II engine like an LT1.


tpagreenhornet, you can run an '88 'Vette 10.75" disc clutch. I did a push clutch conversion w/ an LT1 T56 but I'm running mechanical linkage. I originally ordered a hyd. TO brg., but had been misled on it's fitment (would have had to shim the trans / bell away from the engine *or used a shallower, weaker pressure plate in order for it to fit.)
