Arrow t56 swap

Getting ready to do a 6 speed swap in my 99 A4 and was curious to know what all I needed.. So far I have t56, bell housing, crossmember, pedals, master, slave, monster stage 2 clutch, reservoir, bleeder. To my knowledge I need a center console and a shifter. But have never dne this or seen this been done so I need all the help and advice that I can get.

You're right about needing the shifter and console plate. Getting the lower shift boot will keep things quiet in the cabin as well as unwanted heat/debris after you cut the hole for the shifter. Do you have a torque arm mount for the t56? A4/M6 tranny's have one specific to their setup.

And if you aren't already aware, there is a good writeup in the sticky at the top of this section.

No I don't have the torque arm mount. How much does that vary from the A4 torque arm and how critical is it to have if I'm launching easy out of the whole? well until I get one anyways.

Assuming you have the stock torque arm then yes it is absolutely necessary. You can do some serious damage without one. And the torque arm mounts are vastly different, though they do the same thing. I couldn't find one used so i bought one from a local dealer for ~$30ish.

But you can use the torque arm from the old setup right?

Looking at your checklist i see ''?'' beside shift plate and flash pcm.

The shift(er) plate is the removable plastic piece that has the ash tray, shifter hole and cupholder molded in it. This is the only part of the ''center console'' that needs changing. And my god they are priced like they are made of gold lol.

The pcm flash is basically making your auto pcm function like a stock m6 pcm, eliminating the boat load of codes that appear as soon as the car notices the a4 is no longer there. Also your speedo will be waaay off. The flash remedies this as well.

I didn't flash my pcm to a m6 tune and i have not noticed any ill effects in doing so. If you have tuning software then you can alter the axle ratio's and tire sizes to correct the speedo reading (or so i was told by a sponsor here).

Yes, that is correct. Only the mounting points on the transmissions are different.

Yes, you can do the dyno tune no problem. You'll just always have a CEL due to the a4 trans not being there anymore. And you're very welcome, glad to help in any way.

I was going off the assumption that he was gonna tune without flashing the pcm to a m6 file. I know that you are correct in your statement though.

One thing you are for sure going to need is TIME. Take it your time with it and it will come out fine. Its not rocket science but you will scratch your head a few times. I did it, and with the help of the write ups on here and from local peeps, you'll be fine. If you have questions during the swap, take pics and ask them, don't short yourself by not asking, but read the stiky's first, lots of info there.

btw, I had my PC reprogrammed by MADZ28, pcmforless does it too, go with them if you have mods. GL.

I used this article for my swap. It even gives the measurements of where to cut your holes for your master cylinder and shift boot.

Additionally there is a lot of wire swapping that will have to go on to make your hatch work properly and for your computer to read the neutral/park signal so the car will start. You have to extend the VSS and reverse light wires and stuff too. It says in the article exactly which wires to cross-connect or extend. Good luck with the swap.

What do you mean "to make my hatch work properly"?
