T56 Tail Housing Seal (Picture)
What is the best tail housing seal. The one I just picked up from napa is on the left, the factory one is on the right. Napa carrys the one on the right, but its about 50 dollars more expensive (ill spend the money if thats the best one) and needs to be special ordered.
What do you guys think, will the one I have do the trick or should I get the other one???

BUMP, anyone else have experience with either and recommend one over the other?

I don't have a huge amount of experience, but I don't like the look of either of those. I believe my brand new T56 Magnum had the seal like the one on the left, leaked within 60 miles. I went for the heavy duty seal from D&D Performance. It features a sturdy metal casing and hasn't had a drip yet... Do a search, I hear people using a seal made for the t-350 as well...

I just replaced my rear extension housing seal with one from napa. The exact one you have pictured. And the one I took out was just like the factory one and I've driven a few hundred miles so far and it is dry as hell back there. So I say use the cheaper one from NAPA.

Thanks guys. I called D&D performance, and the seal that everyone is talking about only works with the viper t56 that has 30 or 31 splines. That one will not work with a 26 (or 27, i forgot) spline t56 that came on the fbodys. The one they sell for those are the same seals you get from napa, which I have pictured on the left.
The reason MOST seals leak, is NOT because of the seal, its because of a worn driveshaft bushing.
Im going to install the one on the left tomorrow. What do you guys think, just press it in dry or use some RTV for some extra insurance.

Magnum tail seal problem
I' getting to this thread late but I too seem to have a similar issue with the tail seal in my brand new magnum box. I've replaced the seal once using the replacement part pictured on the left. After a run of about 5 miles it is leaking. The new seal has worked it's way out about 5mm from the housing face and although it is still partly retained its enough to cause the leak. The seal pushed in reasonably easily so I'm concerned it can work it's way out easily. I fitted it dry, didn't use any cement or sealant. Should I? My car is a new Cobra replica with only 60 milers done.

You need to measure it with the suspension fully compressed. Looks can be deceiving. When you increase the length of a transmission, you decrease the length of the driveshaft which changes the angles.
