2nd hand T56
Need advice.
I have come across a 04 VY R8 Commodore T56, 'same as the F/Body' that has been sitting in a garage for 5 yrs.
It has 80.000kms on it, it was bought as a spare but not used.
My question is: will there be any issues with it being it has sat for 5 yrs.

No real issues develop other than perishing seals or the lack of lubricant on the parts.
Simply drain it and refill it with fresh fluid and install. Go very slow the first few miles as the trans fluid is slung around and coats the bearings and gears, then you should be ok.

I had the same thoughts.
2nd hand T56s are not common here in NZ & are not cheap when available, this ones nz$3k.
I had been hoping to get a Tick modified Magnum but the cost to buy, freight, NZ tax on arrival I would be looking at nz$8k.

Yeah shipping really puts dampers on purchases sometimes. You could buy a t56 upgrade kit from tick for less and the shipping weight would be less? You can get that Trans to handle 750 whp in the viperized version, and tick sells all the parts you need!

Suppose that's an idea if I can manage to buy this box. Would be cheaper to just get mine fixed/Viperised but not sure how any of our gearbox repairers here would welcome me buying the parts cutting out their profit.

They make more money off the labor of the rebuild than the parts, they can't tax the labor. Plus, with "their parts" the trans would grenade and not be able to hold the wheel, and if they couldn't understand that I wouldn't want them working on my stuff cause they aren't real car guys, they need to make as much money as possible and thats it.

In NZ we have what's called GST, 'Government sevices tax' so any work that is done has 15% GST added & parts are the same.
There are enough good gearbox firms here but it's not something they would normally do here, modifying a T56 to the extent Tick & others in the US do.
