Need a clutch, validate my research PLZ
2000 SS-smoked the clutch bad last time out, couldn't get it in 2nd. Actually seems pretty good today but shifts a little notchy. I think I am on borrowed time so here is what I THINK is a good move, any help would be appreciated.
I am looking at a Ram clutch, Mcleod adj master, updated (2001) slave and the drill mod.

I'm in the EXACT same spot as you Quickdraw. I want the same setup you just gave. With the fair amount of research I've done Ram seems to be a good choice. Maybe Cartek is better, but I don't really want to spend $800 on a clutch. Heck, Harlan runs a Ram and he has something like 573rwhp?

That $800 includes an adjustable master cylinder, and new slave cylinder! Another vote here for the CARTEK!!!

Yeah, what he said. It's actually listed as $860 on Cartek's website with all the extras. Since he needs a new master and slave, that's how much it would cost him...assuming he doesn't get it on a GP. Cartek disc and PP = $530. Ram disc and PP = $300.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I will go Cartek just because it is proven. Ram may be a great choice but is pretty new so time will tell. I want to do this right the first time.

Actually, only the kit as a whole is pretty new. I'm using the 300 series disc because I don't need quite the holding power of the disk that Harlan is using. I use the same pressure plate, and resurfaced flywheel though. 4000+ miles and no problems yet.

normal usage
i beat the crap out of it for 9k miles. With close to 600 RWHP, 10k miles seems to be the magic number for me on clutches
The disc thickness hadn't changed much, but the p-plate and flywheel were very worn
It didn't fail. never even slipped. it just got to the point where it became very notchy and chattery.
I still have the old one, i really need to take pics to show the wear.

I ran 10k miles on my Centerforce before i wore it out
I ran 9k miles on my first RAM before it wore out
I'm on the second RAM now, 4k miles and counting.

Oh ok. I guess that's good news for me. I don't plan on going over 400rwhp so I guess I'll be ok.

Can anybody comment on Star Spec Stage 3 disk set up's?? Most of the sponsors listed below sell them for around $500.
