Default Tranny's not doing so good. Getting worse. Help

Well I already posted about my tranny problems but it's gotten worse. It started w/ it grinding going into 4th, then popping out and grinding in 3rd. Well now it's grinding really bad in 4th and 3rd, so i'm skipping those gears all together. Just today it started getting hard to get it in every gear...1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th(takes more effort to put it in gear) and the tranny makes sort of a whining noise when downshifting.

I've ordered the steel 3-4 shift fork, the updated master and slave cylinder, and I'll be doing the drill mod. Do you think this will solve my problems, or am I going to need even more parts? ie syncro rebuild kit...???
Thanks guys.

The steel 3-4 shift fork will cure the popping out of 3rd gear problems, but if your grinding going into all gears you have more going on than just the fork. I just rebuilt my tranny; it wasnt grinding going into most gears, but it took a higher than normal effort to get it into the gears. Mine was grinding a bit going into 6th gear. I ended up replacing all synchro assemblies except reverse, 2nd speed gear, and 6th speed gear.

If you can stand the wait I would just tear it down and then order the parts you need. You can get a free service manual download at tremec website. It explains how to check the parts.

only grinds in 3rd and 4th, difficult to put in gear in all other gears.

I bought the parts from D&D those were about 275.. then 650 for labor at the tranny shop (pulled trans out of car that will save 120 bucks or so) then since I was there I put a new spec 3 master and slave I guess it was about 1700 total

I would recommend the billet struts, AKA slider keys, which the stock struts are largely resposible for getting stuck in 3rd & 4th gear.

I have had my T56 stuck in 4th gear twice - on 2nd time it happened, I dislodged it with hard hit of palm of my hand upwards and guess what, it no longer occassionally pop out of 3rd gear.

Based on this, I would guess that the struts are the prime culprits for causing popping out of gear as well. The aluminum forks get bent as a result from being stuck in the gear and trying to dislodge it.

well here's a little update. got the tranny out and turns out the clutch is broken. have a new one ordered. I'm into the tranny now and the forks look good. the keys for the 3-4 syncro were completely broken. there's a lot of wear on a couple of the sliders so they will be replaced. I'm replacing the aluminum 3-4 fork w/ the steel one. I have a syncro rebuild kit too. there's a chip on the input shaft gear going to the countershaft and the spot where the syncro hooks on is very worn. will be replacing that. yeah this is a ton of fun.
