Anatomy of a broke T-56
Ever wonder what the insides of a T-56 transmission look like? Well here you go
Here is the countershaft and 1-4 gear shift rail assemblies still on the front of the transmission
Here is the mainshaft where gears 1-3 reside
Here is 4th gear (the input shaft) and gears 5-6 and reverse (on the PVC pipe...in order as they came off the mainshaft)
Here is the culprit that caused my lack of 4th gear...notice the plastic pieces. These are the shift fork bushings... The 2 on the left are what they *are supposed* to look like...the pair on the right are the "broken" ones. they extruded out and got stuck between the syncronizer assembly and prevened the slider from engaging 4th gear A frickin' 50 cent piece of all things to break

Better than having to replace a bunch of hard parts that cost $$$. Right now I don't have 3/4 gear. Just grinds and pops out no matter what. I guess I'll buy all the possible parts and what I don't need I'll sell or take back. I have a couple of tools to buy before I can get into it.

I know...my other tranny I have lost all the engagement teeth on 2nd gear (thats where the "good" pads came from). Nonetheless, I'm going to put this one back together with a steel 3-4 fork and new pads

If you get a chance sould you shoot a couple of pics of the synchro assembly? Something that show how the sliders and blocker rings relate to the gears.
There are always a ton of questions about synchros. Most come from not understanding what the synchros consist of and how they work.
I did not think about doing this the last time I had mine apart.
