I have one in my car from Liberty Gears in Michigan. It takes a little getting used to and is kind of a PIA to daily drive, like I have been doing. I also only have 1-4 gears....they removed 5/6. It's AMAZING when you go WOT though. I've never driven anything like it. Foot firmly on gas, tap clutch, jerk in gear.

To upshift it I double clutch it, all Fast n' Furious style , then to downshift it, I just rev match. It only likes going into first gear from a dead stop or almost stopped.

It may not be the correct term, as in an actual double clutch, but I figured everyone would get that with my Fast n' Furious reference. I guess not though....I guess technically I actually double clutch the car to downshift it. It's just easier to explain the other way around.

I actually push the clutch in, put it in neutral, push the clutch in, put it in gear. I hope that clears up anything that you may have gotten confused about.

Why the hell would they turn a 6 speed into a 4 speed?

Well, for one, it was a drag race only transmission. Two, it's less rotating mass, thusly more horsepower. Three, any of you ever driven a proshifted transmission? When you're WOT it's like you're driving an automatic. Basically, it's just a question of how fast can you pull/push the shifter, there's no missed gears to worry about.

If this tranny ever does take a crap on me, I'll have 5/6th gears added. Then it'll be proshifted 1-4 and syncronized 5-6.

I never agreed with removing the 5-6 gear assembly either . I read an article where Ford was bragging about how efficent the T56 was and that it created less than 2% loss through the unit in power .

Its a 6 speed for a reason . Have fun in 1-4 and enjoy the ecomony in 5th & 6th .

Liberty proshifted t56's are RACE ONLY transmissions. There are no synchro's. About 3/4 of the meshing teeth are removed so that when racing, all you have to do is slam the shifter into the next gear. I dont even think you need to use the clutch.

Revmatching is required on all shifts to get them even remotely smooth. That means you do have to double clutch on downshifts (dropping gears) since there are no synchros. Double clutching = Clutch in > shift to neutral > clutch out > rev motor up till it matches next gear's intended rpm > clutch in > shift to desired gear > clutch out.

IF you are going to synchronize 5th and 6th why not do it to 1st as well.

I bought my tranny from CamminBeaSSt on the site. It had never been ran and still had a 12 month warranty on it. He had 5/6th removed. If I added 5/6th, it voided the warranty. So either when I get tired of it, or if this tranny takes a dump on me, I'll add 5/6th. BTW, it's by no means a race only tranny. It's certainly not for everyone, but it's not just for racing. I've drove mine for almost a week now on the street, everyday. I just avoid the highways

About 1st gear, I'm not exactly sure why it's proshifted, or if it even is. I know that it doesn't like to into 1st gear at all unless you're almost completely stopped. I'm not sure the reason though. I always thought Liberty mainly proshifted 2-4.

I've only ran it on the street, but I can imagine it'd be awesome at the track. It's just like a Jericho.

Is there even a clutch that can handle a pro-shifted trans?

I'm waiting to see if liberty face plate T-56's come to be yet. That will be even better IMO.

I'm also waiting on the face plate system for the t-56. I may go that route next.

I am currently running a Mcleod Revlok in my tranny. Pretty stout clutch.
