Default ? about street driving a pro-shifted T56

I love this transmission for the track, but for the street it sux. when shifting 1-4 it is very loud even if I double clutch it. I thought I had read that if you double clutched it would not do this. anyone have experience to back that up?

No, the part about double clutching allows you to get the trans in to second more easily from 4th or 5th or so. The only way I found to minimize the 'thunk' is to shift it fast, even when you're just cruising along.

Kinda obnoxious, isn't it?

Good post, I'm considering a pro-shifted tranny (F-body's my third car, but I still drive it on race/cruise nights) but was curious if it would be somewhat civilized on the street.......

383SS, I thought you were selling the car? Decide to keep it?

ya, I'm keeping it for now. just put in a bigger cam and have a fresh tranny/clutch. I may still have to sell it at some point, but I kinda jumped the gun on advertising it.

thanks for the info Camarohalic. That clears things up a lot, although it is a little dissapointing. I try to start out in second when I can (so I can go straight to 5th), but then my iron clutch squeals worse guess I'll just drive it minimally on the street. Not that I drive it more than a few 100 miles a year anyway. when I do shift 1-4, I do it as fast as I can and try to half *** rev match. I thought that helped some also.
