Default clutch line...problems disconnecting

This line on my 99 WS6 is about to drive me crazy. I did a search and found several threads about it, but I still can't get it off. I tried the plastic fuel line tool and two flat screwdrivers and neither one would work. I can't even see the plastic ring I wonder if it isn't even there or if it is jammed in and not letting the line loose. I've taken it off of a couple other cars with fuel line tools and never had this much problem. Any ideas at all?? What can I do if the plastic ring is broke off or jammed? Thanks in advance.

It is a big pain in the *** the first time you do it, I'll admit that.

Just keep pressing the ring in evenly with two flathead screwdrivers, it will eventually pop out. It needs to go in pretty far so keep working at it...the term 'quick disconnect' is a joke.

use the right sized fuel line disconnect tool, and JAM it in there, push as hard as you can, it has to go all the way in. i had ZERO luck with screwdrivers.

Definitely use a fuel line disconnect tool. You'll have it off in 5 seconds.

well I got it off and figured out why it was so tough. the plastic piece was not there, in its place was a really thin piece of metal about the same size as the plastic piece but much thinner. When I was pushing in with the fuel line tool or the screwdrivers it just "squished" the metal further into the slave. I ended up basically having to pry it out, so now the end of the slave is messed up and the new line won't stay in. Anybody have any ideas on how I might fix this? Am I gonna have to pull the tranny and replace the whole slave cylinder??

You'll either have to put a new slave in it, or find an old one and take the retainer out of it, good luck getting it out in good shape though. The older ls1 cars have a much thinner plastic peice in them and are a little harder to get off. I always use a short pry bar and push it in with that, works like a charm.

Thanks for all the help so far. One more question, how is the retainer connected to the slave? Is it possible to get it off without pulling the trans? Thanks again

Another easy way is to take an open end wrench and press on the plastic release thingy with it...works like a charm and gives you a lot more leverage than the screwdrivers or the fuel line tool.

It's one piece, so you'd have to pull the trans to remove the slave. You wouldn't have to take the trans all the way out of the car...unbolt it and slide it back, remove slave with two 10mm screws and you're good to go.

The retainer is seperate, it's inside the quick connect on the slave, but it's hard to get it out without messing it up.

I use the same prybar for that too. Put the bar between the body and the line and push it in.
