Default Wierd Noise from t56 under 2k rpm.

Ok I have noticed that when taking off in 1st gear and it gets to the point where I meet hte friction point and start giving it gas then as Im pulling away 5mph+ after the clutch is 90%-100% engaded, it sounds like a rattle of marbles in a can, it only does it when im under 2k rpm. 2nd gear doesnt do it at all, but when I go into 3rd (it shifts fine w/ out noise) but when I give it more then 20% throttle to acclerate hard I will hear the same noise up until the engine reaches more then 2k rpm, then it goes away. I think 4th gear does it a little but not much.

Any Ideas? Car only has 30k on it, its a 96 LT1

I had the same problem, mine ended up being the imput shaft going into the transmission. I had no grease in the pioet bearing, si it eventually killed the bearing then killed the imput shaft. I had dust in mine when I took it out.

With out taking it apart it is kind of hard to tell though. you may just need some more grease, or you might have heated it up to much.

sounds to me like the possibility of pinging. try cruising in 6th gear @ like 55-60mph, then put your foot to the floor. If you hear it when the motor is under a load like for instance the scenario i gave you it could be "pinging." which has nothing to do with the tranny at all....rather has to do with possibly bad gas.

Ok guys I have officaly ruled out "pinging" I tested some more and it only makes this noise under 1,500 rpm. When I did the 6th gear test at about 50mph and gave it like 50% throttle something vibrates/buzzes near the dashboard. Its not quite the same noise that you hear in the lower gears, its deeper. It does it pretty much in any gear when you give it gas (more then 20%) from around idle to 1500 rpm. anyone please help.

im going to say your pilot took some abuse over time ....wasnt greased or changed and your tranny is going to need some serious money dumped into it...i had the same problem...over time it will get worse, and once it gets to a certain point, you can everything done right as far as a new pilot and your whole clutch assembly, but the damage is already done...just my 2 cents man...i could be totally wrong, but i had your same symtoms and it was the input shaft

imput shaft is like 250-350 depending on who you go with. a new pilot bearing is not that much money. I would just look into getting a new clutch, and replacing while you are in there.

I'm assuming those prices are for doing it yourself, rather then having a shop do it? What is everything I should replace then: Clutch, Throw out bearing, input shaft, pilot bearing....what else?

Does replacing the input shaft require disasembling the trans.

I just cant belive this stuff would crap out if the car only has 30k on it..

Would I be able to do this stuff w/ the car on ramps/jacks in my garage. This would be my first ever time dropping a trans and replacing clutch etc..
