Noob clutch question
I have a spec 3 clutch that started slipping. At least I think it is the clutch. I'm driving down the road, say in 5th gear, and if you push on gas to hard, rpms go up you go nowhere, and you feel like a chatter in car.
Do I need a spec 4 clutch? Is this normal when clutches get old? I'm running about 400rwhp. Heads/cam exhaust. Any info is appreciated thanks.

Seems like it's time to order new...

If you look through this section you might decide against spec. Alot of people that went with spec arent really happy, myself included.
I have a stage 3 spec and its been in the car for about 4500 miles and its starting to slip and I just have basic bolt ons.
It does sound your clutch is slipping, but personally, I would stay away from Spec.

www.fredbeansparts.com is probly the cheapest part number: ls7clutchkit. Bout 500 for clutch, pp, and flywheel. You'll also need a new 01-02 slave if you have a 98-00. It will fit perfectly. But you must have the flywheel that the kit comes with (ls2 vette flywheel).

ok I have the newer master and slave. $500 for kit seems kinda steep. Spec said they would rebuild my clutch and give me a flywheel for $400. Thoughts? Should I get it rebuilt through spec?

If you actually want an opinion, rather than approval of what you already decided to do, here 'tis. Spec is not particularly reliable. Go LS7, or if you want truly bulletproof, spring for the Textralia, neither of which has any complaints I am aware of about either poor customer service or poor quality. (Spec has plenty of both)
As for expense... pulling the trans to replace the clutch AGAIN next time the Spec fails will cost you far more than the difference between the LS7 and the SPec.
Do as you will, here's hoping you listen to the advice you ask for.

Check with Amber or Joe at t56 rebuilds for pricing on the LS7. They are sponsors here and have great customer service.
It may cost more to get the LS7 as opposed to having the SPEC rebuilt, but I think you'll be better off. I will never buy SPEC again, theres no way that a stage 3 clutch should be slipping after 4000 miles with no track passes.
From what I've read, people have been very happy with the LS7.

I have the LS7, and had a spec 2 before. The LS7 is 100 times better than the spec and you could actually get it cheaper from a guy on the board blubyu ($400 shipped if i remember correctly)

if cash is the question get an LS2 clutch
You can get an LS2 C6 vette takeoff almost brand new from lingenfelter for $100, on ebay search LS2 clutch on ebay shipping is about $48 but for $150 shipped its not a bad deal and the LS2 clutch will hold 400HP and if not you only wasted $150 not $500 or more, plus you get the stock pedal feel and no risk of chatter. put one in my car and i love it. Ling is taking 25 vetts dropshipped from kentucky to make ling commemorative editions and there posting the takoffs on ebay some starting at $1 and some like the one i got with buy it now for $99.
