Default CarTek Clutch and Bad Vibration

I've got the CarTek Clutch and I am running a poly trans mount. I actually had the poly trans mount in before the clutch and the vibration wasn't bad at all. Then after the clutch install, I get a really bad vibration between 2000 and 3000 RPM. (with or without the clutch engaged and in any gear or neutral, or even just sittining in one place and reving the motor) I called CarTek and they said I have to replace the Poly with a 1LE because the vibration is bad enough to set off the knock retard. Has anyone else heard this? I have to say I am kinda bummed about it because I really liked the poly trans mount. What about their clutch causes this excessive vibration?

Could it be your flywheel?
I have somewhat of the same thing although not as bad.

I first thought about that, but once I get above 3000 it's as smooth as a baby's bottom, so I think that would eliminate the flywheel because I would think that the higher the RPM the worse the vibration would get.

I have a similar problem with my Star Stage 3 Carbon Fiber clutch. There is a slight shudder just above idle and then around 3500-4000 a significant vibration develops. Speed Inc. installed the clutch and now the car is going in for its third new clutch. Originally when I changed from stock I opted for the aluminum flywheel. I've decided to go back to the steel flywheel in an effort to eliminate factors. Its an awesome clutch and hooks hard but that vibration really shakes the car once the revs get going. I'm also changing plugs and wires in an effort to quell this vibration. If it comes back this time vibrating, I don't know what it could be or what I should do.

Also, I was just in Street Stuff and Grant showed me a bulliten that Centerforce put out regarding clutch vibration. Basically it said even if your putting a stock clutch back in, the entire assembly must be balanced.

I have heard the same thing about balanceing the assembly. I am going to swap back in the 1LE trans bushing and go from there. I just find it really weird that it vibrates more at low RPM than it does high. Also, why does CarTek say that it can set off the knock sensor?

amazza76 I see that you live in Lombard, I grew up there and now I am in Lyons. How long have u been living there?

Three years now, I grew up in Roselle. My fiance and I are building a house in Carpentersville though. We've got a condo off of North Ave.

How do you like your rebuilt t-56? I've been thinking about doing that myself and wanted to know if its worth it. FLP told me $1700 in exchange.

Nineball runs a cartech clutch and poly trans mount. There are two things for sure you can do to quiet the noise and vibes of a poly trans mount..
you can install it without the metal plate and grind the two humps flat...these two things are supposed to really quiet it down.I never tried it and did find the poly mount too annoying for my car but I didn't do the hump thing..did try it without the metal plate..guess you have to try both together.I have the ile with the cartech clutch..it seems pretty quiet.

WHAT A DIFFERANCE A MOUNT MAKES!!!!

Well I swaped my Poly trans mount for my 1LE mount, and wow, what a difference. I knew the poly was stiff, but I guess I forgot how much stiffer. I have the 1LE mount in now, and took it for a spin, absolutely no vibration or bad knock from the exhaust (I think it was the exhaust hitting the floor pan when I lugged it off the line) But anyway, I am way happy now.

amazza76 I am very happy with the FLP built trans. I've got about 500 miles on the rebuild, and I haven't raced it yet. I had a serious problem with 3rd disengaging on decell, and some other gears grinding (mainly 4th). Yes I learned how to power shift on this trans They rebuilt my whole trans for about $1200. This included using a steal shift fork and carbon fiber sincro brakes from the Dodge Viper and a new 3rd gear. Plus all new trans bearings and seals. It even included them blueprinting the trans. Plus they really shinned up my trans, it almost looks polished

When do you move into the new house?

They haven't even put the roads in yet. They say delivery in Feb. but I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, I wish you luck on the house.

Well, I had a chance to row through the 1st 3 gears this moring on my way to work and it appears that the car hooks better with the 1LE mount vs. the Poly mount. However, I have no hard data (60 ft times) to back this up, just seat of the pants feel. One thing is for sure, the vibration is all gone. (Which was to be expected)
