Reverse... ****** t56's haha
reverse has always worked fine, but today, I drove around for like 2 hours, then parked. I them left after about a hour or so, and I couldn't get it into R. I had to take both hands and force the shifter past the lock out, and then into gear, and it stayed perfectly, no problems. Now I have to do that every time I need to put the car in reverse, wtf is the matter? I also noticed once at a light I couldn't keep the car from rolling forward in gear with the clutch in, without the brake on, but if it was in N with the brake off, it wouldn't roll... As if the clutch wasn't fully disengaging...

Try going 1st, then to reverse. You're synchro may be worn, and the 1st to reverse trick is how it's supposed to be done anyhow.
You're main problem is that you're car more than likely needs a clutch/throwout bearing. How many miles are on the clutch? I know the car has high miles, have you done a clutch since you bought it?

That doesnt work, tried it
I forgot to mention, as it totaly slipped my mind, that everyonce and a while car wont go into reverse without easing up on the clutch and holding up on the lever.
I have no idea how many miles are on the clutch, 145,000 I would belive.

Either your slave cylinder is not disengaging the clutch fully, or your pressure plate is worn out and not disengaging itself. Sorry to say it brother, but you are going to DESTROY your transmission if you try to muscle it into reverse like that. Little secret for R. Shift with the motor off into reverse, and you won't hurt that 1500 dollar potential boat anchor. Remember, unless you love spending money and riding the bus, then treat that t56 gingerly.

It does it with the car off too man, I already stated that.
Does it with the car on
Does it with the car off
Does it even if I shift from 1st to Reverse first with the car on

ALright, I checked teh fluid, its pretty clear and full...
Also got under the car and looked around and couldn't find anything unplugged. The reverse lockout appears to come off the tranny right up by were the shifter mounts, correct? How can I test my solenoid?

You can unplug it and power the solenoid directly with 12v. You can test the plug for power with a VOM( key on & key off). It also sounds like you have a clutch release( not fully releasing) problem going on at the same time.

I still say that thing is going to need a clutch. Gaurantee your problems go away.
You can check the lock out solonoid, but if it does actually go in, it's not that. The solonoid wouldn't allow you to get it in. Even if you forced, it wouldn't go.
145k, and you don't know if a clutch has been done?
Needs a clutch...
Calhoon has the right idea to test the lockout solonoid if you want to try it. Go to sears or Radioshack and get yourself a decent dvom/multimeter.

I have a very, very nice fluke multimeter... I just cant see how this could be a clutch problem. My clutch grabs GREAT on hard up shifts, catches power shifts, and I can put the car in sixth gear at 30 mph, floor it, and it wont burn through the clutch...
The reverse lockout system puts 10lb's of pressure against going far enough to the right to get into reverse, unless you cant move 10 lb's, you can force past it, just like my buddy did at the track when he was spraying his ls1/t56 rx7, and missed fifth, and went to push it up again and caught reverse...
Here's a picture of the two connectors that I tested.
The white one has 0 volts at all times, key on or off. The black one, has zero volts key off, and 4.9 when the key is on.

i have the same problem, Ive replaced the master and slave cyl, at least which leaves the clutch for the problem. To get your car into R just turn it off put it in R then turn it back on, its what i have to do

The picture states the problem very well. The white plug belongs to the skip solenoid. That other plug in the pic is the speed sensor- don't mess with that. You have another solenoid mid-case , the skip solenoid w/ white connector on the solenoid. I suspect it has the black plug in it that you will need to plug into the reverse solenoid to work( black plug/ black connector solenoid - white plug/ white connector solenoid).

I do have a P0500 code as well, which is a VSS code. But my MPH, RPM's, and CC all work perfectly, but could this be telling the car that its going +5 mph at all times, locking in the reverse lockout?
