Default car stuck in 4th gear @ 115 mph!

i was running it and it just locked itself into gear. i had to drive it home in 4th gear which sucked at each stop light. then i get 2 blocks from the house and it decided to free up and i was able to move it thru all of the gears fine. the pedal feels a tad softer imo but i could be paranoid. the slave is only 10k old and so is the mcleod clutch and master cylinder. the fluid is pretty black though so maybe it just broke down and boiled up? the resevior is still full so its not leaking out. clutch engagement has seemed to be a bit closer to the floor over the past week also. any ideas on whats wrong?

1. Bent shift fork
2. Synchro is probably trash along with the blocker.

same thing happened to me in my WS6...sorry bud rebuild time. you can drive it and not beat on it but it will get stuck again. mine got stuck 3 times. also think about it like this, if something broke then there is junk floating around in your tranny.

1 of the 3 detent keys snapped, you probably will be able to drive it just fine unless the others break.

Clutch welded to the flywheel, then broke free. New clutch time.

If the clutch was welded to the flywheel, he would be able to drive it home and take off from stop signs.

I am quite confident with my conclusion, this on the other hand makes no sense. When the detect keys snap as they shift into the gear they get lodged between the slider and the broached hub but if the broken key falls down into the bottom of the transmission then you can shift fine again. I have personally driven a transmission for tens of thousands of miles which I never knew had a broken key on the 3/4 so I would say if it doesn't act up then continue to drive until it either doesn't hold in gear or gets stuck for good. You will most likely find the pieces in the magnet on the tailhousing...

Mine did the same thing and eventually it progressed into not being able to go into 4th at all! It just grinded and if i did go in, it got stuck so bad it was almost impossible to get it out. I also wasn't able to go into 3rd. It was probably a bent shift fork and some messed up syncros. Its getting rebuilt at the moment, I can let you know what he all had to do when it gets done here in a couple days.

Wow this has to be the DUMBEST post of misinformation I've seen in awhile.

Re-read your statement, cross examine it with the guy's post and REALLY think about it hard.

I agree that it is one of the keys. The stock ones are hollow and bend, which happened to my Z28 at Norwalk several years ago. Give Rodney at RPM Transmissions a call. Bob

Dam Tommy, I though I was pissed with my hydrolics in my clutch, but it could be worse.

If you need it rebuilt, there is a great guy in Tampa that will stand behind his work and you wouldn't have to ship.

yup. I was racing an SRT8 when I pulled it into 4th gear as hard as I could.... well... that was it. It got stuck. I had the tranny rebuilt. The sliders broke and it was a bent fork and fucked up syncro.

rebuild time... mine stuck in 4th on the way home one day... drove fine for 3 months until finally 3rd gears started grinding on downshifts... then finally started grinding on upshifts... then finally couldnt use 3rd or 4th gears because 4th stuck and 3rd would just grind to high hell..

ended up costing me an extra 600 bux to buy new gears and slider assemblies because everything got trashed from driving on it...

stop driving before you suck the broken parts through your gears and totally dick stuff up..

www.sixspeeds.com ='s the ****.. amber and joe are amazing to deal with
