Shifting weird when cold
So when I drive my car before it is completely warmed up, the transmission doesnt feel right. It has trouble getting into 2nd, that is, it doesnt like to go into gear and it makes this loud clunk. Also, 3rd gear has trouble going into gear. I push the clutch all the way in and it grinds sometimes. Once the car is completely warmed up and has een driven for a couple minutes, there are no problems at all. Is this just because the transmission hasnt warmed up or is there something else wrong (I hope not). Thanks!

My tranny feels a tiny bit notchy until it gets to operating temps. Never grinding, but its a wee hard to get into 6th to leave sometimes, never dificult, just notchy and requires a tad more arm to do than after a bit.

Don't call me a ricer, my car does the same ****, i double clutch which makes it smoother. just push clutch down, put into neutral, let up clutch, push downa gain and put it into the next gear. Seems to work for me, you may need to blip the throttle a little bit because its a long time consuming process(whoever thought that was a good line for fast and the furious?) and the rpms will drop down to far making the shift not so smooth.

Good to know. I figured that is all it was since its only when its cold out and the car hasnt warmed up. I just wanted to make sre it was my Rear end going out or something. I am constantly scared of that since I still have the little old 10 bolt. Im tryin to make it last haha. Thanks for the input guys!

Just take it easy until it warms up. I use the long drive out the neighborhood to go slow and let everything circulate before I have to speed up on any main roads. Be smooth and switch the fluid to a good synthetic. From what I understand, the stock fluid protects relatively poorly when cold compared to a synth like say RP's Synchromax.

mine does the same. had ls7 clutch kit, new master, and new 02 slave installed a couple months ago. also besides being hard to go into gear, my clutch pedal feels mushy and has about 2 inches of play... when cold, then when it warms up aftter drivin the pedal feels fine and has about an inch of play. whats wierd is it didnt do it the first 2 winters i owned the car, but now after the install it does. also sumtimes it randomly goes into gear fine, im gonna bleed it first and see how that works. im guessin theres sum air in the lines that expands and compresses due to temp change. i hate hydraulics

Well I guess I will go against the grain here......
I run Pennzoil Syncromesh in my car. The other day I decided to drive it to work and it was 11* outside at 5:30am I just had the car under the carport so it was ice cold. It shifted the same as always from what I could tell.

Penzoil Syncromesh here too. 22 degrees this morning, shifted like butter. It felt alittle tiny bit stiffer...but no troubles going into or out of gear.
Seems like the T-56 is alittle fussy when compared to other manual boxes. I think because its performance oriented. My trans is built too... so its not the stock internals anymore. But...I was thinking about how they work in the cold, and how many people complain of weird shifting. Anyway a heat blanket would work for overnight? Like a battery warmer type of deal? Or some sort of heater that goes into the drain hole for the fluid? Sort of like a block heater kind of thing.
I kind of figured on the next week or so being her last few trips out of the garage anyways... Stupid winter. Im just now finally getting used to driving it and now I have to put it away...

Well, I just responded to another thread like this one since I have the same thing going on with my clutch.
Do you all have slack in the pedal for about 1.5 to 2" until it warms up. After 30 min I have no slack at all and I've had the clutch bled 3 times in two months.
