RAM HD and 5000rpm dumps?
Wanting to get a clutch that can handle abuse at the track and be a decent everyday driver.
After heads I should be around 450rwhp and might put nitrous on top of that.
I will be putting a 12 bolt or 9" with 4.11 gears and 15 MT DR's on it and wanted to know if this clutch could handle the abuse of 5000rpm clutch dumps for very long.
I have read alot of good things about the RAM HD and it seems a good match to my needs, but can't find to much on track use.
Experience, rather than just guessing, would be great!!!
Thanks for the help, James.

I run the RAM Powergrip HD in my car. I've had the clutch for about 2 years and with the 9" out back I've done more 4500-6500 RPM clutch drops than I can count. Some on DRs and some on Slicks. I have had zero issues with the clutch, but on the other hand I did crack my 9" case.

I launch between 5000 and 6500 rpm. I had 60 runs on my Powergrip HD when it started to slip. Inspection revealed that the hub spring encapsulation had disintegrated but otherwise the disk, flywheel, and PP were in reasonably good condition. I believe that the encapsulation material caused the slippage - Ram disputes this. I replaced the Ram with a (solid hub) Spec 4. I have 50 passes on the Spec and it still grabs like new. BTW, the solid hub is no problem on the street.

I've got a Spec 5 and it has taken a massive amount of abuse. Many, many 5,000 rpm launches. However it's starting to get tired and it's time to replace it.. My friend has a Spec 4 that gets beat bad and it still in good shape. We both put out over 500 rwhp. I'd really like to go with the Spec twin disc with the carbon disc. Even though it's a great product it's tough laying out $1,000+++. Fidenza has a twin that only handles 800 rwhp for right at $1,000. The Spec claims to handle like twice that.

Can't comment on the Ram but, I have the Tex OZ700 and see more track time than street time. Grabs like a vice and feels like stock. I pulled the tranny over the winter to replace it with a face plated trans. While it was out I checked the clutch and did not like the way it looked. Sent some pics to Tex and they sent me a new clutch. Can't beat that!

X2. My Ram exploded. Went with a Tex after that and it lasted 2 years with nice feel and 24k on it.
