So the LS7 clutch is a good replacement for moderately modded cars like mine? How much power will that thing handle safely...and how does it feel compared to the stock LS1 clutch. Is the flywheel lighter or heavier than the stocker?

Besides what comes with the kit, is there anything else that should be swapped out while the clutch is out? The car is a 98 with just over 60k miles on it.

My mods and hp are in my signature...

Thanks!

Manny

MannyZ28, Supposedly the LS7 clutch is good for 450rwhp. But I've never heard of one crapping out on a car with more power than that. So it would be perfect for you.

The whole assembly is a few pounds heavier than the stock setup.

Since you have a 98, I would upgrade to 01-02 hydraulics and then you will be set!

Hope I could help.

it's a good idea to replace your slave, and bleed the snot out of it. Run at least a whole bottle, then wrap your line.

My Slave has been upgraded to a 02 when it failed after the headers went in. We did the drill mod to it too

Good deal then.

All you need is the clutch assembly now!

My stock clutch is going out, hard to put it in first and Reverse and a few other issues.
I am shocked it lasted this long(75K) (30K after H/C&Headers) with my mods.
I have read and heard good things about the LS7 setup for our cars.

But I have read the LS7 flywheel is lighter than our LS1 counter part and then I have read the LS7 is slightly heavier.... Not sure which is which.

Also...
Seeing I have an 01, do I just replace the slave or do I get a new master and slave
also, I notice in the LS7 parts list it shows an LS7 Pilot bearing......

IF I go with the LS7 Kit do I then use a LS7 Pilot or do I use the LS1 pilot bearing.

Sorry for all of the questions, I had done all of the modding on my car myself or with friends, but I have never had to mess with the clutch yet.... LOL.

TIA

-The LS2/7 flywheel is slightly heavier than your stock LS1 flywheel.
-I'd go ahead and change the slave while I'm in there with the miles you have on the stock parts.
-You need the LS1 pilot bearing.

And this pilot bearing is not included in the LS7 clutch kit, right? Is it a must to replace, or is it one of those items that you change "just because you're already in there". And I suppose you should switch out the throw out bearing too, right?

It is not a must, but a part that myself and many others will always change while we're in there! It is not included in the kit (extra $11). A new throw-out bearing comes included with the new slave cylinder

Thanks Matt,
That is pretty much what I thought across the board. but figured it was free to ask.

I also see a kit that does just the Clutch and PP 24238412GM Factory Replacement PartsGM Performance LS7 Clutch and Pressure Plate Kit$253.32
and a perf ls7 Flywheel.12571611GM Factory Replacement PartsGM Performance LS2 Flywheel$221.20

Is that flywheel aluminum and lighter than my stock one?

Am I able to use an aftermarket Aluminum flywheel with this kit if the GM one is not.

Those two part numbers together make up the LS7ClutchKit! That flywheel is slightly heavier than the LS1/6 flywheel. There are aftermarket lightweight flywheels available for this, but their price sort of negates the big selling point of this kit (price!).
