I dont think there is a light weight aftermarket flywheel avalible yet, either way your driveability will be better with more weight on the flywheel, unless you auto-x, it shouldnt be a big deal.

i was reading the ls2 flywheel weighs more than the ls1/ls6 flyweels stock .

i found a guy on the corvetteforums that was running a fidanza aluminum in a c6 vette . seems like if we could use a ls2 flywheel we could use a aftermarket flyweel .

Fidanza does make an aluminum flywheel for the ls2, but it costs almost $400. I don't know if anything else is being produced right meow

Just some info I've came across. I've been doing some searching on this subject lately. I want to get the ls7 clutch but don't want the extra weight that the kit adds. At this time the only aftermarket flywheel I can find is the firdanza there is no billet steel flywheel that I can find anywere execpt for spec which has to be run with there clutches. A billet steel would be ideal as it would keep the whole setup just a few pounds over stock. The ls7 with firdanza will be lighter than stock which is't necassarly a bad thing but many say its not good for drag racing and the rpms drop faster inbetween shifts. You can pick up a fidanza on ebay for $350 to your door but even at that price your looking at about $600 for flyweel and clutch assembly, so about $200 more than the just running the stock ls2.

Stock ls1 flywheel-24lbs
Slp billet ls1-16lbs

Stock LS1 (2004 GTO) - 49lbs
Stock LS7 (2006 Z06) - 57lbs

LS7 flywheel weighs 26.5 Lbs
Firdanza ls7-13lbs

Ls7 with firdanza-44lbs

Would an SLP billet steel flywheel work with the LS7 clutch disk and pressure plate?

At this point there is no billet steel flywheel for the ls2/ls7. The one I posted is only for the ls1. Like I said in my other post the only billet steel flywheel that I have came across that is an ls2 is the spec but it is for use with there clutches only not stock gm clutch.

appreciate all the feedback on this . this is about all i could come up with myself and there appears to be only one alternative for now to running a stock ls2/ls7 flywheel .
maybe someone that makes these will take note as there are many light flywheels for a reasonable price made to work wih a ls1 though only one for the new generation .

He is right, Fidanza does make a lightweight flywheel for the LS2/LS7.
How do I know? well, I've got one sitting in my room right now along with a LS7 clutch. My friend just installed a LS7 clutch and Fidanza fw in a C5 Vette just the other day. He said it felt great!

Fidanza makes an aluminum flywheel for the LS7 clutch

its a ls2 flywheel, the ls1 flywheel will not work with the ls7 cltch, only the ls2 flywheel

if you dont drag race a lot, go with the ls2 aluminum flywheel. if you do , its gonna be really hard to launch with it.

There's a seller on ebay that will accept a "Best Offer" of $335 shipped for the Fidanza LW flywheel that you need. I just picked one up myself and I believe he has two more available. You can also get just the LS7 PP and friction disk from Scoggin Dickey's for ~$250.

Fidanza is the only alternative I've found so far. We are trying to keep them in stock, but they are moving quickly!

I think I've had my Ls7 clutch & Fidanza flywheel in for almost 18 months. But I don't drag race. No problems here.

Why even get an LS7 (aside from cheap price)? They have high rev shifting issues. There are tons of better options around, esp if you're going to spend more money on a lighter flywheel. I had a Monster LT1-S (lightweight) in my TA. Well 49lbs isn't "super light" and what the stock one weighed but it was smaller. Getting a Centerforce lightweight for my new car (44lbs).

Drivability was fine once I made minor tune changes and tweaked my clutch pedal technique a bit. From my notes, set your base idle spark to 18 degrees and have 12 degrees in your adaptive spark tables at 100 rpm. Then add 1g/s to your base idle air.
