ghetto fix..

shove a tiny wadded up piece of paper in your ball, then screw it on,,,,,the smallest piece of paper will do. I know, I know,,but it works.

na it aint that kind of rattle. It's caused by the brass insert being loose inside the resin cueball. I don't know why they didn't just thread the cueball but they had to stick a threaded insert at the base of the **** at that (not like MBA *****).

You can take a socket and tap the insert in some..be careful though...i broke my **** cause i tap too hard

I've run across a couple posts on this exact topic when trying to reduce the overall vibration through the shifter. One fix was to inject some sort of silicone/loctite sealant/gorilla glue/teflon tape etc. inside the threads to lock them up. Some times the internals of that plastic shifter ball are loose, cracked, have voids, etc. Sometimes a different has no rattles. I think if you Google "rattle in Hurst plastic shift ****" below or something similar to that you will run across some ideas from the other websites. You definitely don't want metal to metal thread contact. Plastic to metal is better. Pretty common issue.

Not everyone has success though either:
