Default Little vibration with LS7 setup normal?

I started up my car yesterday for the first time in about a month and noticed from 1200-2200 the car seems to have a little vibration. It does it regardless if the clutch is pressed or not. I'm wondering if I torqued the bolts down wrong on the clutch, I did it in a triangle way like the GM book said, but that was for a stock clutch. Or was the clutch and flywheel balanced a certain way and I installed it incorrectly?

I'm worried about it, especially when I might be putting poly motor mounts on when I get headers. Any help will be appreciated.

No one? Guess I might as well pull the tranny and reinstall everything again.

The clutch should have had locating holes and dowel pins, so you can't put it on wrong. The vibration started with the new clutch? I'd scan it for misfires before tearing it down.

should be smooth, the alignment dowels kinda ensure you can't really install it wrong.

Did you use red loctite on the flywheel bolts? Are they torqued to spec? Did you use blue loctite on the pressure plate bolts? Did you torque that down correctly?

I torqued everything down to what my GM service book says, but that's also for the stock clutch. I used red threadlok on all the bolts, both flywheel and pressure plate. My book said to torque down the flywheel bolts in three passes, and on each pass increase the torque amount. I'm wondering if maybe I messed up the torque pass on the pressure plate.

Thanks for the help so far guys!

I highly doubt you torqued them wrong, your flywheel may be out of balance or balanced wrong

does it vibrate under load as well? if it was out of balance, the load would amplify the vibration throughout the car.

also check the transmission mount

I guarantee your flywheel/pressure plate assembly is out of balance. I just went through this on with a centerforce clutch on my DD. Take them both to a machine shop that can balance them, it'll only cost you ~$30-40. You don't want to drive it much with the vibration, that **** is hard on the rear main bearing.

I'm having the same issue with a McLeod and am in the process of a tear down right now. I've been told that when taking the clutch to a machine shop some will actually have a machine that can balance the clutch and others will use some sort of template and won't actually spin the clutch assembly in the balancing process. I've heard that the former is less expensive and more effective.

Can anyone shead some light on this? I know jack about machine shops and how they do things.

Dont know about that but mine was balanced on a machine that only spins to 500 rpms, the machine shop guy said thats all it needs, mine was 12 grams off from the factory and it does not vibrate at all now that its installed.

Shouldn't vibrate at ALL, they're balanced perfectly from GM. This is the only clutch setup where my car HASN'T vibrated (steering wheel only in my case) around the RPMs you're talking about. God I love the LS7 clutch/flywheel combo

You may've made an error installing it...

Guess he'll have to pull it to find out. Cross fingers it's just a bolt that backed out a bit. Examine the pilot bearing and check for any excessive movement of the input shaft.

Looks like I'll pull everything out this weekend, so much for making my rear seat delete this weekend lol. I'll check the pilot bearing and input shaft, they are both brand new so it should be easy to tell.

Thanks for the help everyone

Was there any markings on the setup how it should be installed? Like two arrows or something?

Well I pulled the tranny and clutch today and I don't see any damage on the input shaft or clutch. I'll be getting it balanced someday this week.

Did manage to break a plastic piece on the driver side of the oil pan in front of the flywheel when I tired to get the bellhousing off. Anyone know where I can get a new piece? I don't want water, dirt or animals to get in there.
