Should have come with a metal shim shaped like a donut. No need to try to grease the TO bearing. I just installed mine the way it came from the factory. Not sure why someone recommended removing the spring. The factory recommended tranny fluid works fine. If you change, make sure the one you choose is compatible with your internal components.

You might not need the shim either, every car is different. I installed the shim with my Spec 3 and it was causing the clutch to slip because the shim was keeping it from releasing completely. Removed the shim and it's fine now.

The shim is included in the package and can be found within the zip-loc bag with the break-in and Warranty info. It is .115 thick and is suggested for use on all F-body cars...though as mentioned above there are folks running withount it. Please let me know if you have any further questions about this and I will be happy wo assist you. Thanks!

Unfortunately there's no way to know if you'll need that shim or not, you'll just have to try it and see. This is exactly why the ls1 clutch system is a complete joke. Absolutely no adjustability without removing the entire trans and slave cylinder is completely absurd. Way to go GM engineers. I had mine in & out 5-6 times before it was right.

Install the shim since Spec recommends it and also install an adjustable master cylinder. That solves your problem either way.

Not if your clutch isn't releasing all the way with the shim installed. No amount of adjusting the master cylinder can fix that, the shim has to be removed....happened to me.

By releasing you mean "engaging", correct? If so, then I see what you're saying and the adjustable master may not help like it helps with a disengagement issue.

But that said, I still think the smart way to go is to install the shim per Spec since the majority of Spec users end up needing it.

I can think of a handfull of folks that do not use shims in F-body cars...literally! If it were my car I would put the shim in it. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!

You're correct, I mean engaging (pedal out). I agree about installing the shim first, if it doesn't work then pull it.
