Default T56 Grinds in 4th

What could be the cause of this? I drained the trans fluid, and there was just some metal dust in it. Here's what happened.... need inputs.

I have about 410-420RWHP, 10 bolt rear w/ 4.10 gears. I have a built T56 that is supposed to handle 600RWHP.

Put 315's on the back wheels, and decided to do a burnout in front of my friend's house. The diff in the 10 bolt broke pretty much every tooth off.

I get a Dana 60 installed, and take the car for a test drive. Shift into 4th, and give substantial throttle (not WOT, little more than half) and there is a grinding sound from the tranny. It doesn't sound like it's out of gear though. Could the 10 bolt's death also have broken the tranny?

There is also a "clunk" in every gear, if it's not shifted slowly (ease off the clutch) but I think that is the tranny hitting the bottom of the car.

Maybe a broken tranny mount causing the tranny/exhaust to bounce off the floor?

the clunk could be the torque arm bushing... I had the same problem and I replaced that with a poly bushing and it went away.

Check the Transmission mount. If 4th gear is grinding as you shift then it is the synchros or blocker ring. If it continues after you have it in 4th gear; it is probably not the internals of the tranny. Besides; didn't you get a Stage II rebuild or something like that a year or so ago?? I would hate to think that new synchros and blocker rings burned up that fast. If that is indeed the case, I bet your clutch is dragging, therefore not fully disengaging as you shift.

I installed the UMI Torque Arm relocation bracket, it wasn't broken when I put it in.

Not as I shift. After shifted, and then with some accelerator. under no load, there is no sound.

Check the speedometer plug--that is easy enough. Sounds like something not related to shifting mechanism (synchros or blocker rings). Did you guys install a new pilot bushing when you put in the McLeod twin??

I don't think so. What is the pilot bushing?

The bushing in the crank that the transmission slides into past the pressure plate, clutch disk and flywheel.

I am pretty sure that we didn't replace that.

The pilot bushing (bearing?) should always be replaced when you do a new clutch. It is possible that when the rearend went enough vibration/pressure etc. was transfered through the transmission imput shaft and chewed up the pilot bushing (bearing?), But I would imagine that would make noise at all times; not just 4th gear.

Could be the pilot bearing but could also be the 4th gear syncro ring and broken 3-4 shift keys .
