m6 missing 5th gear
i have a 2000 z28 with m6 and it is missing 5th. it doesnt go into gear it just grinds. i was wondering if anyone knows if i would have to completely rebuild it or if its an easier fix. and any price quotes would not be a bad thing, or if i might even be able to fix it by myself?

id let the shop drop the tranny, while it would cost a little more, most shops wont warranty it if you remove and install it, since they could say that you installed it wrong. and about cost, it'll prolly cost anywhere from 500-1200 depending on internal damage. or if its just syncros.

ur best bet is to get ahold of amber at six speeds inc. you will have to drop the tranny yourself, but it isn't hard to do. ssi has a great reputation and are very fair when it comes to pricing.

I use 5th all the time... nearly all my city cruising is in 5th, so idk how u could go without that gear. Anyway, since the guy isn't picking up your calls I would go in and talk to him face to face, he cant as easily ignore u then. It's your car you have the right to know of its progress. I feel your pain tho, my previous car was at a trans shop for over 4 weeks to have the trans rebuilt. It sucked, I was pretty pissed off.

Yeah, some of us use 5th all of the time. It can depend on your gering and your speed limits on your main roads where in some towns/cities all of the speed limits are 45mph. Whereas here, our main speed limits are 35mph and I shift into 5th at 30mph. Just depends on the area. But have you heard any word from the shop yet? It shouldn't take near this much time to fix the syncro's and/or shift forks.

I just got mine back this last weekend. Apparently had I taken it to the shop sooner I would have just had to pay for a rebuild instead of a new tranny. Just go to the shop and have a look.
