Average time is suppose to be 9 years.

Average I see for a lot of guys is about 10-12 years if they're **** hot sailors.
I made E-5 in less than three and am hoping to make E-6 in a little over 6 years.
For guys like AME's (deal with aviator's o2 and aux power units and stuff) it's damn near impossible to make chief.

Totally depends on your job. I am an AT(Aviation Electronics Technician) and made it from E-1 to E-6 in 7 years. I made it to E-5 the first time up every time (3 1/2 years). It took me three times to make E-6 and even then I was meritoriously promoted(PNA'd it three times).
