Good deal since they are not only paying the tuition but they are also paying a housing stipend based on E5 bah with dependents. I might have to rock that to finish up my masters degree and put income in my pocket.

Well, hopefully, this won't hurt retention!

Should have had this years ago. Figures, I grad in november and NOW they finally pass something.

Edit- I just read august 2009. Looks like I wont get it. Well, maybe I can go back for my bachelors after my next deployment (2009).

Did it go into affect? I heard it was being fought purely because of retention... noone will stay in, it is just too good of a deal now...

While this will hurt retention, this should also cause people to do a stint in uniform. The MGIB has always been a significant selling point to students fresh out of high school. Now, it's several times better!

I'm not really opposed to McCain's version of the MGIB revision, but it's hard to turn down generosity that I think the military deserves NOW. McCain would have a great benefit after several years in service, but by then, education loses a lot of utility and limits the potential for starting a new career after the military, which is what many 20 year enlisted retirees end up doing because they don't find retirement lucrative enough.

Well, they need to do things for retention as well. I've been told it costs 150,000 to send a soldier through army basic, but yet they only offer us 15,000 to stay in beyond our original contracts. Why not offer more so there isn't such a focus on recruiting?
