Default PSA: you need an external microphone for you videos - parts list included

I did a bunch of searching on external mics for action cameras to use with my gopro and tried a bunch of the super cheap options. These were usually some form of lapel mic which would sound okay in quiet settings but never captured a loud exhaust note well. The setup I've been using the past year is a little more (just the mic is $30) but it sounds amazing. I wrote blog post about it with all the relevant parts needed.

Make your car sound amazing with a GoPro external microphone

Here is a comparison video with speeds 40-120mph:

On my car I mounted it right above the license plate inside the rear bumper. I've run it on a few cars and as long as the car has full tail pipes the license plate area works great.

I recently ran this setup on a car with dumps before the rear axle and while it still sounded good it wasn't quite as good as cars with full tail pipes. I'd probably try putting it under the car the next time I use it on a car with exhaust dumped before the axle.

Thanks for the demo, I got that microphone, I didnt see the gopro to mic adapter you recommended on prime so I tried one from "Samdi" It was only MONO, Pointless... I sent it back and got the "Movo" adapter and it works great so far. Looking forward to getting some good audio next track day
