Tried out an SLR camera...
...my friend's, that is. He just got a new Nikon SLR and wanted to test it out. Using it for essentially the first time, but some of the pics he took came out IMO pretty awesome (way better than my 2MegaPixel thing). I have the full res 1.5mb pics if anyone really wants 'em. Saw this run down factory a while back across town from me and I thought it would make for an interesting backdrop. I'm bored of just taking pics in my driveway. Thanks for looking. If you have any suggestions just say so.

But the 2nd and last pics look really good, the last one being the best.

There are many different Nikon dSLRs out there. I"m assuming he's on the entry level D50 with kit lens? That can be a strong setup once you learn to use it.
I'm glad someone posted some "regular" pics from a dSLR though. Too often people think they'll spend the coin on a dSLR and BOOM great pictures are automatic. It also gives you some appreciate for what some of the guys on here who take great pictures consistently are doing behind the camera to get the pictures they do.
These pictures definitely are a cut above what you'd get out of a standard point and shoot but once he really learns the camera and develops his eye a little more you guys will see much improved shots. Good work. The last picture is definitely the strongest.

I have been experimenting with SLR cameras. I know a guy who is into photography. He has been showing me how to use his Nikon cameras. Once you get use to how all the controls and settings work they are nice cameras. I am debating on purchasing his nikon D200.

Yea it takes allot of practice and reading of plenty books/websites to learn how to properly shoot and post process photos from a dslr, sad fact is most will never bother to learn. I love learning to use them myself.

he just needs to learn how to post process...they look dull and underexposed....something he will learn how to fix as he gets more experience...
you can get awesome images from a point and shoot...can you tell me what one is from a pns and what if from my 20d?

^ unfair, pictures have to be of the same thing to be fair ^
but yes, its all in the photographer, I've seen some amazing photos come out of extreamly simple set ups, taken by a person who just knows how to use it.

that is because you're shooting in jpeg...i shoot in raw and i believe all good dslr2s offer this...if you're really into the photograhy thing and want the best image you shoot raw...the file sizes are huge and you have alot of detail kept in the images without loosing it to compression when going to jpeg
but even with that being said you can still edit images in jpeg format ...the flower is from a canon a610...its been through photoshop and what i did was bring out the colors 10x more...this one blows the original away by far!

i was gonna say that they need to be of the same thing, but he beat me to it lol
most macro pns pics i see are easy to spot bc of the multi-point focus. even on the ones which allow you to switch into single point, the AF still tries to get a bit of everything--(not to say there arent pics out there proving me wrong--just a general observation) but ive seen some GREAT pics out of pns cameras--it is all the user.
i shoot through a D50 and love it--although my dads D200 kicks its ****--Its really all about the lens, the 28-80 most of the nikons come with isnt bad, but i use a nikkor af-s 24-120 or 18-200 and havent looked back since-its nuts the difference good glass makes.
Also who ever said they are looking into a d200--i would advise considering the D80-its amazing, i think i might trade up to that one here real soon. Basically the d200 in the d50 frame, -the alluminium frame is the only "drawback" but even that has some advantages--and the price difference isnt that bad. If i were just starting out again i would buy a body only and just wait unitl i could do a good lens too, the basic kit isnt bad, but having used good stuff now i wish i would have just put the little extra money of the lens kit towards a different one. There really isnt a market to even re-sell the 28-80 either--
sry for rambling
happy shooting fellas

Damn this thread blew up... but yea, it's the entry one I believe, but he said he's getting a new lens for it soon. I love the last pic I think it came out great, not quite night, but kinda close. Thanks for the comments on the car! I need wheels more than anything
