Question egr intake freeze plug q

i got a 1 3/8" expandable freeze plug from advance auto, and followed the instructions. however the top washer is not sitting flush:

if i tighten the nut down any further the plug will pop out of the hole. is this correct or should i get a smaller freeze plug? (this is for a 78mm FAST intake if it matters) thanks for any help/advice

edit: also the package for the plug says: 1 3/8" - 1 1/2" (34mm - 38mm)

Is it flush on the other end? if so that is what matters, you probably need one that is thinner not a different diameter, but at the same time one that is smaller in diameter would squish more to expand to the hole and then it will be shorter overall,

I dont know I have never used one.

i genraly dont like to use those rubber type plugs.
a regular brass or steel 1 3/8 is what i have used on reg. ls1 intakes.
should be the same for the fast intake

Never tried it myself, but how would a brass/steel plug seal? Friends of mine have used that plug on a GM LS1 intake - I'd try loosening it, pushing it down then retighten it. Doesn't need to be real tight, just seal.

Opps, meant to type LS1 intake.

Default my solution

Thanks for helpin me out guys. As it turns out, the FAST egr hole IS different than the LS1 intake's. There is an inner lip. Check out this pic:

What I did was I went back to the auto parts store and got a smaller plug:

It was STILL too big for the inner lip hole so I conservatively hacked around it with an exacto knife:

Once it went in the hole, I just turned the nut down with a socket til it was tight, and then double-checked the squish of the rubber:

I am 99% sure this will work. This thing is not going anywhere and the rubber is squished out pretty good, feels really solid. We'll found out on engine dyno day though.

LMAO No I didn't cut the hole. That first pic is someone else's fast intake. It's plugged but if you look closely it says "REMOVE FOR EGR." The one I got had that part removed, so there was a hole I had to plug up.

Will do, thanks for the tip. I was thinking about using epoxy if all else fails.

Actually, for those of you using a brass freeze plug, how do they sit? Do you just hammer it in and it self seals?

Im going to get a brass one soon and I plan on installing it using a socket and a hammer and tapping it in there.

TIP BTW to the OP and any readers in the future. Use a pair of channel locks and a buddy. Tighten the rubber grommet to where you can slide it in the hole with a little force, have your friend hold the round top part with the channel locks and you tighten the **** outta the plug with the correct size wrench. Mine was a 1/2 i do believe. Leaks will cause a surging idle and surging at 35mph.

Just my .02

Thx for the tip Josh. Would you mind sending me a pic of that brass freeze plug when you've got it installed?

I believe this billet plug (on EBAY) will work on the FAST & stock LS1 intake for EGR hole plug. 1 3/8" hole. If your going to spend $500-800 on an intake why use a lawn & garden plug?
