Default Keeping a high mileage ls1 going

I recently bought a 2000 b4c camaro with over 175000 miles. The engine seems to be ok other than a small oil leak and possibly a little blue smoke. I was wondering is there anything special I should do to this motor to keep it running strong? This is my first ls1 car. I'd like to have the engine last as long as possible before having to rebuild or swap it.

Pennzoil Ultra! . Serioulsy keep up w/ your oil changes. I had an oil leak when I got my car and I believe a few synthetic changes reconditioned my seals because I no longer have it....and dont beat on it. Take care of it, it'll take care of you....also check your tranny fluid. If your not sure when it was changed last put a good synthetic tranny fluid in there.

Wolf Head is a good synthetic transmission fluid..

from what I have seen Syn-oil in an older motor that leaks oil now. the syn-oil leaks worse...

Just beat the **** out of it and run in on 87 octane. . . .

No, really. . . Don't beat on it. . . Change all the fluids. As far as oil I would stick to conventional.

Its all about keeping up with your maintenance if you want it to last a long time. And dont beat on it! (too much) Like mentioned above. Obviously you bought it because it is a muscle car, but just drive it nicely unless theres some pesky import or mustang itching for a beating

Change plugs, wires, fuel filter, check air filter, change oil, tranny fluid if needed....seafoam it if you want. Thats about it. Have fun!

As far as I know the previous owner has been running synthetic oil in it for a while now. There's synthetic in it right now.

sorry for the thread hijack, but same questions here. This isn't my first camaro, but it's my first one with 180000 miles on it. It's had mobile 1 in the past, should I change that to a different type and what about oil weight? 5w, or 10w? I use WIX oil filter as well.

the manual recommends 5w30 so that's what I plan on sticking with and would recommend.

Just take care of it. A B4C is one Camaro that MAY let go. Those motors were idled A lot more than normal, so they have a much higher runtime than milage suggests.

My neighbor's let go at 102k =( If it taps, localize the prpblem.

I really haven't heard it tapping...luckily. The car won't be daily driven. maybe not even weekly. I bought the car as somewhat of a project and I've just started trying to eliminate some of the problems and first on the list for it is maintenance. I figured an oil change would be a good first step and since it has a small leak I was gonna clean up the underside of the car to see where it was coming from (I hope).

If the guy before had synthetic in it then switch to German Castrol 0w-30.

I got mine and it used about a half quart a every 3k miles with the Mobil 1 the guy used in it before. I switched to GC 0w-30 and it used oil the first oil change and hasn't used any since.

Wow, I've been hearing a lot of good things about the german castrol but I figured since I had such high mileage I'd be better off with something like the pennzoil ultra that supposed to clean some of the gunk (I guess). I looked around for ultra the other day at the local parts stores but nobody had it. Where can I get some of the german castrol?

I buy it at Autozone. It says "European Formula" on the front of the bottle and "Made in Germany" on the back.

i can tell you what not to do, and thats take it to the track! i took mine out today(211,000 miles) and now she sounds like a bomb! horrible track prep ended up spinning into 2nd and hitting the limiter and i believe its a bent pushrod or lifter problem. time for a rebuild!

I got 183000 on my daily driven mullet machine and it runs great! I used high mileage 10w-40 mobile 1 and just recently switched to Royal Purple 10w-40. Treat it right and it will ast a long long time.
